Nomination and Letter of Encouragement, When Will I Receive My Appointment?

Hi,

Last week, I received my congressional nomination from my congressman. Also, I received a Letter of Encouragement from West Point Admissions and completed everything on my application a month ago. I have a question regarding appointments. When do they usually come out? Also as I have my nomination already and a Letter of Encouragement, would that speed up the process in receiving my appointment?

Thank you for answering my question.

First, having an LOE is not a guarantee of an appointment, unlike having an LOA (letter of assurance). So no one here can really say if or when you may receive an appointment, unless you have a Principal nomination.

If Admissions is going to send you the BFE (an appointment), it could be any time between now and April/May. The first wave (large mailing) came out in January this year for the c/o 2018.

Good luck!

Based on my DS's 3Q letter, it sounds like everyone will be waiting until February:

We have received all your application information and the Admissions Committee
has qualified your file. West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As
such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments
are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2015.

I just received my BFE this afternoon. I had a LOA, which I received in early October and then received my nomination 2 weeks ago.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your "resume" like?

My DS's letter from last year states the exact same thing. BUT he received his appointment mid-January -- out of the blue, no warning, no LOA, no Principal nomination, not a recruited athlete nor an URM. He received a competitive alternate nom from a senator. It arrived Priority Mail on a Saturday, while DS was at work and I was doing my taxes.

Soooooo, who knows what USMA will really do.

Very true. While those stats are good, many here have similar ones, but no LOA. While we collectively sit around and scratch our heads, we do celebrate the few that will be receiving bubble wrap this Christmas.

Wow, my file is VERY similar to yours, even my 3 sports and varsity years match up and I have similar leaderhsip. LOAs are sent out to fill up specific slots I've been told so you probably fall into one of the categories of leader, academic, or minority. Sadly I didn't even get an LOE, which I think is due to the fact I didn't have a 29 until October. I am always stressed out over this application process so I wish I got one .

The reason that I was qualified, received a LOA and the BFE so quickly is because I am a recruited athlete. I talked to my FFO and she said that she hasn't seen nearly any offers come out yet and that the first big wave is soon to come.

The first big wave of acceptance or LOA's? I thought they were done sending out LOAs so I assume it's the latter. I'm by all means no recruit athlete though so I could see why you received an LOA so quick.

Acceptances.
