Since all three of my nominating sources (two senators, one representative) require a one page letter on why one wants to attend a service academy, and since we also had to write one for west point, do the majority of applicants who face this situation use the same essay for both?

You know, I was wondering the same thing myself. But really, if you are being honest with yourself, how much can your answer change, beyond the wording?

Our MOC requires the one page letter too. When my son did his WP essay, it was originally too long and he cut a lot out to make it fit. A one page letter is longer so he was able to put back some of the details he edited out of the WP version. Other than than, it's very similar although he did put something in that ties back to the state.

Having been through this with 2 sons, - the quick answer is - basically yes - the essay is the same - do some polishing for the specific case, but I agree with the prior posts here - once you state your basic beliefs and qualities, the words will vary a little, but the basic foundation is the same....
