What is everyone's opinion of a dark gray/black suit, shirt, and tie vs. khaki pleated slacks, navy blazer, shirt, and tie?

Either one would be fine with polished shoes, a crisp shirt, and close shave.

Our DS wore a small flag lapel pin at his interviews. He received a principal nomination from his MOC. It may or may not have made a difference in the final selection process.
