Hi everyone! I had a nomination interview today, and I was so nervous! They asked me questions about my hobbies, school, what I intended to study at the Naval Academy, what a backup plan was. I'd like to say it went well, but there were times when I was so nervous that I just completely blanked out! I told them I was nervous and apologized. Is this nervousness normal?

I wouldn't worry too much. Part of the interview is seeing how well you handle under stress. My interview guys asked me if I knew anything about Marine Corps history. I was kind of stuck on that question, not because I lacked in some USMC history, but because I was dumbfounded by the question and really didn't know what to say. I said some stuff about their role in the Pacific theatre, but it looked like I knew nothing about the Marines. However, the rest of the interview went well, I made them laugh, and I felt good about it. I'm pretty sure the history part is just a test of pressure, as I do not think that the nominees would have to know Marine Corps history, so as long as you answered what you could, you should be fine.

Update: I received a nomination! :)
Congratulations! That is a huge step in the process and like we told our DS, it's the second to last step with the last being that all-important appointment.
You should be very proud of where you are at in the process.
Now the wait-unless you were principle or LOA recepient in which case HUGE congrats are in order if all qualifications have been met.
For us, its to see if his whole candidate score puts him in the running for an apppointment.

Good luck and hopefully we'll see you with our DS at I-day!

.

Last year having a principal nomination + 3Q did not equal appointment (as we saw from many candidates who fell into this category and did not get appointment). We need to squash this information so that the wrong information is not put out. Admissions specifically put out to the Area Coordinators and BGOs that principal nomination + 3Q does not equal appointment. Not here to argue over the legalese of this or whether it is or isn't fair.

I did not see that and thank you for the clairification regarding being a principal nominee.

It ain't over till the fat lady sings! Getting that nomination is a giant leap forward, but until that appointment is in hand sit tight and hold on! Once you have the appointment, and the nomination you still have to keep the grades up and stay healthy for Iday! Last year we wanted to bubble wrap DS through soccer season. Even tried to convince him not to play! Good luck and hope that BFE is in the mail for each of you very soon!

It is truly nerve racking as people have said here. After my Plebe received his principal nomination last Feb, I moved onto my next worry, will he get injured (bubble wrap was a serious consideration) driving a car, playing baseball, or even falling off a stair. THEN, principal noms got TWE's. We were happy when the BFE came but the injury factor was a concern all the way till he stepped off the bus on I-day.
