My son received an LOA over the summer. Our Congressman called my son at school the other day and told him he received the nomination.

We then receive two letters from the Congressman - one saying my son was receiving a nomination - one saying that he received an appointment.

I thought the appointment came from the Academy and the nomination from the Congressman.

We haven't heard from the Academy - so we're just not sure what this all means.

Any advice would be helpful

My understanding is that the academy allows the MOC to notify the candidate first, if they so desire. Since your son had the LOA, it wasn't a big surprise to you that the appointment would be coming, but for people without an LOA, it is more of a big announcement. The actual appointment will come from the academy.

marciemi is correct. USNA gives the MOC's about 10 days lead time to notify candidates that they will be receiving an appointment before they mail out appointment packages. Some MOC's call, some send letter, some ignore.

Both of the above responses is correct. Relax and let it happen. Congratulations!
