Nomination Selection

I have submitted all of my applications for my nominations, but I am still a bit confused as to how a candidate is nominated. I am from central New Jersey and am aware that it depends on the district you live in, but how does the nomination selection process for the Naval Academy work?

my son has jsut recieved the news that he was chosen for an interview with one of our U.S. Senators for possible nomination--- Can anyone give us some clues as to what to expect? Types of questions? ETC....Thanks!!
