I was recently reviewing my application, and under the nomination status it says presidential and received. I just sent in my paperwork two weeks ago. Does the received status mean I received a presidential nomination or just that they received my paperwork?

Thanks.

Hey, Jacob, I have a question. Did you do word for word what the suggested letter on the Academy website said (substituting your information)? I am still really confused about the presidential nomination. Would you be willing to copy and paste your letter that you sent on here as an example? Thanks and good luck :)

Well I don't have it with me because I'm on vacation, but I used a copy of the letter template and attached my dad's retirement papers and sent it in.

Jacob if you applied for the nom and they processed it then you have the nomination. Everyone who is eligible for it gets the nom.

Really? That's awesome! Thanks!

That may not be enough. Apply to all nominating sources you can. Congressperson and both Senators. If you are part of the JROTC at your school and it is an honor detachment, apply there as well. Competition for Appointments from the pool of Presidential noms is keen. The more noms you have, the more slots you're eligible to fill.

Glad to hear about your nom. Keep up the hard work, get/stay in top physical shape, and make sure you have the best ACT/SAT scores you can muster.

Best wishes. :thumb:

A presidential nomination means your father qualifies to nominate you. You state that you turned in his retirement papers, so I'm assuming they accepted them. You have 1 nom, certainly should still apply for the others also, but at least you have one, now work on the rest of the package.

If you have one nomination, that's great... but still apply to your congressman, your senators. and remember, a nomination IS NOT AN APPOINTMENT.

Essentially, the nomination is a request that your application be considered for acceptance. It is definitely NOT an automatic "in."

But it is still good to have.

Yes, Fencer is right, it is great to have because you can't get an appointment without at least one! But the more you have the better your odds of them fitting you into the appointment puzzle!
