My DS applied to USMA, USNA and USAFA (listed here in order of his preference) and is 3Q'd. He applied for nominations from his Rep (all 3 SA's), 2 Senators (USNA and he could only choose one SA) and VP (USMA). We live in a low competitive district where the Rep has nominated less than 10 to each SA the last 6 years.

My sons logic was that he is quite confident he will get the Rep nom for West Point so he hedged his bet and requested noms to the USNA from the 2 Senators. I'm not sure about that logic, but he did this without consulting me so it's a done deal.

Well, he just got a LOA from West Point and needs to ensure he gets a nom to the USMA. I suggested that he call the nomination coordinators for the Senators and see what options he has to get switched from USNA to USMA. I've heard the SA's notify the MOC's about LOA's so the Senators should know and he'll either not get an interview or he'll have some difficult explaining to do at the interview.

Any thoughts?

Part of the problem in trying to 'game' the NOM system is you may end up with something you didn't really want.

USNA no longer routinely tells applicants if they are 3Q, so not sure how you would know that. Being 3Q at one SA does NOT guarantee a similar status at the others.
