I know I sound like a complete child/noobie/loser/failure/idiot, but how and where does one apply for a presidential and vice-presidential nomination? I've attempted to look at websites, but they're filled with useless detritus and I prefer the clarity of thought that many of this forum's senior members have. I appreciate any and all answers!

    See page 9 of:
    http://www.usafa.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-090508-067.pdf
FWIW: This PDF gives LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of information about the application process. I recommend any new applicants save this or book mark it. I think it's a year or two old, but the info is correct. Best of luck. Mike....

P.S. For the Vice-Presidential, it's on page 8. You mail that to washington D.C.

The letter that I used for the Presidential nomination is listed on page 13. It is by far the most simple nomination you can get, so I would go ahead and look into sending in that letter.

Brian; page 13 of the PDF I listed? ACTUAL page is page 9. (look at the bottom of the pages). Pages, including picture, could possibly be page 13. When I said page 9, I was looking at the actual pages numbers on the bottom. My bad. mike.....

P.S. I just re-checked. YOUR page 13 (PDF Page) is my Page 9 of the brochure. Same thing. mike....

P.S.S. Remember, NOT JUST ANYONE can apply for the presidential and military related nominations. Read the qualifications on the pages prior to the forms. mike....

I see that now, sorry. I just looked at the top and used that page number. There is also some good info on page 9 defining each type of nomination. Sorry about that CC, I should know that you know what you are talking about.

No problem dude. I have definitely been known to screw up on many occasions. I just happen to have this brochure, plus I know where the link is. I pretty much give this brochure to all those applying that I work with. Actually, if the mods are reading this; this brochure would make a great STICKY. It answers so many questions, and as the OP of this thread stated, looking for the information was difficult. (The academy likes to change around their websites and such). If this could be a sticky, I think it has some great info in it. later... Mike....

P.S. Another point. Most people go to the www.academyadmissions.com website. It's the fancy website which is a PITA. (Not to be confused with PIMA) "Love you kiddo". But for actual information, and not a "PRETTY" website; I recommend people check out www.usafa.af.mil and use the search field to look up thing. E.g. "Presidential Nomination". But the brochure is definitely a great place for a lot of common information like all the different nominations, how many, the CFA, etc... Mike...

I believe the soonest the academy's will accept a Pres. Nom. application is either 1 July or 1 August. My son sent his in last year on that earliest date and had everything else done by mid September. The advantage of getting everything done early appears to be that if you are a highly desirable candidate with a Presidential Nomination, they will bypass the LOA and just give you the Appointment, which he had by November. The Senators didn't even schedule him for AFA nomination interviews, only Naval Academy, because they knew before he did that he had an Appointment (and let it slip at one of the interviews!).
