How can two candidates get a principal nomination from the same MOC??? I thought when ranked, the nominating source could only nominate one principal? Just confused I guess. Congratulations to you both just the same!!!

If they have two spots open they can select two groups. Each group can have one principal nominee. That happened to me too. In my case, though. Only two of us from our district applied, and there were two spots open, so instead of making both of us compete for one, they gave each of us a principal nomination. It rules to live in Connecticut.

With Navy and Air Force and Army bases...HI is a competitive State, the other loggin got a Princ. Nom for Navy..I thought the daughter had an AFA Prin. nom also..but if you search other forums...he wrote that his daughter got a Princ.Nom for Navy. Last year though...Sen. Inouye had 3 Principal Noms...two from the Prep School even! so with me coming in c/o 2013 three from last year...that leave 2C soon to be 1C left for a total of 5 for Sen. Inouye

You are right, I forgot that sometimes they submit two or more slates depending on number of vacancies they have at each Academy. I have been so focused on Maryland and the fact that our MOC's only had one slate each per academy this year. Sorry. Congratulations all the same and thanks for your response!!!

This is sort of a dumb question I know, but will your admissions counselor know if you call them what you've been ranked in your nomination category?

When you say "Nomination category"; are you speaking of the list from your MOC? If so, probably not. And if it was in your file that s/he has access to, it is unlikely they would tell you. Probably not what you wanted to hear. Of course, there is one rule of thumb I live by. The answer is ALWAYS NO if you don't ask it. So it can't hurt to call and ask. mike....

When I was at usma yesterday the admissions officer there told me mine, so it's worth a try. :)

Alert, I am going :topic:

Hey, flyersboy, how was your visit to USMA?

haha, it was awesome. A friend told me about a cadet from my area so I had been talking to him for a couple of weeks. He was my escort and I got to go to two of his classes and lunch. I went to military sciences (I think) they were doing some stuff of map reading. It was taught by an enlisted solider. That was neat because when I visited USAFA all the teachers I saw were officers. Then we went to his math class (calculus something). He said his teacher had designed the missile defense system, she was a civilian. After that they went to formation for lunch, we stood in the back. Ate lunch then went to his room talked for a bit then headed back to the admissions office. I talked with an admissions officer who was very nice and helpful. He was a graduate of West Point and had been to Iraq. He told me that I was third in line in my spot of the nomination and that I have a really good chance of getting an appointment. I had a blast and it was a nice day off from school :thumb:

flyersboy; for many who are curious, can you list some differences you've noticed between army and air force in your visits. (Don't mention pro/con because those are subjective and a matter of perception). But like you mentioned all the instructors you saw at air force were officers. What other noticeable differences did you see? people, facilities, environment, etc...

Great, I am glad you enjoyed visiting USMA. :thumb:

Sorry for the interruption.....

I am gonna list some differences, most of the similarities are obvious. I didn't mean to attack or defend either academy so if it appears that way I didn't mean it how you thought I meant it.

USAFA
-More modern in appearance and class rooms.
-Labtops were better (not like that really matters lol)
-Almost cadet I talked to told me to run away haha
-the cadets rooms were more nice than those at USMA
-It seemed like there was more down time at USAFA, but that is probably because of cadets schedules and not related to Academies.
-Easier to walk from classes to your room

USMA
-Classes at USMA were more open to discussion (this could be because I only sat in on classes taught by an enlisted soldier and civilian rather than officers.)
-Cadets were more open to discussion and not one told me to run away fast haha :thumb:
-Tradition was obviously evident in many things
-Food was better (the cadets at our table asked me who had better food, I told them USMA, they said you werent here for breakfast, and dinner, and lunch yesterday :yllol: so maybe I just hit a good meal) :thumb:
-The places to work out at USMA were better. So many machines and gyms. Also lots of nice tvs :D

One similarity not obvious. both libraries were very nice and large. Overall very similar.

Over all I would love to attend either academy given the opportunity. If given the opportunity to attend both, I guess I will have to just think very very hard :thumb:

Thanks for all the detail, flyersboy! Now go back to class and keep getting those A's. How do you have time to post here??? LOL

I hope more candidates have a chance to visit both AFA and USMA. My son was able to visit both and was impressed with the classes at both AFA and USMA. My younger son visited the AFA and was amazed by the engineering class he attended. They were studying a jet engine in a hanger, he said...awesome. He is now at a civilian school...the AFA cadets told him to run away and he did....haha....just kidding.
