North Carolina Nominations

That's nice that she is announcing her nominees this year. Last year there was no contact (except a vague phone call DS received from an assistant telling him he had a nomination) and no formal announcement of her nominees.

Learned I was triple qualified and had a nomination today from NC04 David Price. Do I now just wait an appointment?

I got a nom from congressman price NC 04 as well to USMA. I received my nomination on January 20th. I'm only double qualified right now still waiting on the waiver. What I'm waiting for right now is either a conditional appointment pending a waiver or a letter from west point saying I've been put on the national waiting list.

Not sure

I think Senator Hagan's staff member over the nominations stated that, but I am not positive. (one per academy, but then DS remembers more at USNA, perhaps two, but again, one of the officials here can answer)

Are there any other Senators, Congress members from NC who have not finished the nomination process. I think Foxx has not made her nominations, yet. I am not sure if she has held interviews. Are there others still waiting to name their selections?

Have not seen them

Seems like he announced them last year in late FEb. or early March, but I am not sure. That seems so late.

Our DS had a nom from Burr and worked as an intern ly for him on the Hill.

Burr's letters to the noms come out later than the notification to the SA.

By law he must submit the slate list by the end of January. It takes time for the SA portal to change, but you will know before the files close, which is the end of Feb.

If I recall correctly, the noms that were selected from him get the letters earlier than those who were not selected. I think it is about a week between the two.

If I also recall correctly, the letters came down in the end of Jan., and the announcement of the official slate was released in Feb.

FWIW, when our DS had his interview with Burr for the AFA, the letter came within a week.

Also, if I recall, Burr interviews are A 90% IN. They may interview 12 for a 10 slate, so the interview is the make or break situation. They do not interview 20 for 10...in other words to interview is a positive sign from the competitive aspect since they are selective on who interviews.

Also, NC MOCS traditionally do not talk. However, because of the economy the pool size has increased and they may now talk.

Have your child contact the staff member in charge of SA noms, and just ask do they "talk" to each other? If they don't that works for you, if they do, and you don't get one, don't beat yourself up re:competitive because they are now spreading the wealth.

I interviewed with Sen Burr's USMA board on the 8th with an LOA in hand, and thought the interview went well. The gentleman who coordinates the nominations for Senator Burr said that they try and get out their choices "by the middle of next week" (he told me that on the day of the interview), but I haven't heard back yet, and I don't know anyone else who has either. I'm tempted to call and ask when they're expecting to have the decisions finalized.

A couple of things that quickly come to mind.

1. You have an LOA, and NC is not really seen as competitive. Did you apply to all MOCs? Is Burr the only one you applied to? If you applied to all 3, is he your last hope?

LOA in hand is great, but if you applied to all 3 and did not get a nom from the other 2 for NC (you are not in TX, CA, CO, NY, VA), I would take a hard look at what is holding you back.

2. It was the 8th, and they said by the 15th they would have an answer. It is the 25th, I do not think it would be inappropriate or pushy if you called their office today and asked the status.

Be respectful. ask for the SA person, and than just say, " When I had my interview on the 8th they stated by the 15th there would be an answer, just checking into see if they have made their decision yet."

My D interviewed on the 8th also and she has not heard anything either. She was told she would hear something in a couple of weeks.

I applied to all three nominating sources (and the VP, of course), and I have an interview with Virginia Foxx's office on Saturday. I did not receive a nom from Sen Hagan.

I can't imagine a limiting factor; I'm medically qual'd, I've had my LOA since July, I have straight A's (3.98 unweighted, 4.83 weighted) in all my classes (largely honors and college dual-enrollment courses), my ACT scores are 36 Reading, 35 English, 29 Math, 30 Science, 31 Writing, I swim competitively on a varsity team, I passed my CFA with above average scores, I've been heavily involved in Civil Air Patrol (including some very notable positions & honors), and I've done volunteer work. And like I said, I had good interviews with both senators, so I'm pretty mystified as to what might be holding me back.

don't count yourself out yet

I haven't heard back from burr either, and don't know anyone else that has

I am guessing this yr the sens are talking. With stats like that I am mystified too why Hagan didn't give you a nom.

Also, from previous yrs it appears this yr the MOCs are all interviewing, which would insinuate that it is a competitive yr.

I would not distress at all. If you can subtly tell Foxx in your interview you have an LOA, do so.

What we did with our DS was make about 10 resumes to hand to the committee for the interview. I would suggest you make the resume and attach a copy of the LOA to each for Foxx's interview. They may not know you have an LOA, and this way you subtly informed them WP wants you badly, and they are the last hurdle for the apptmt.
