Got accepted but I've never really heard much about it, but that could be either a good thing or a bad thing. I just have some basic questions about it that maybe you guys would know the answers to? :thumb:

1. How "good" is this Army ROTC program at NG?

2. I researched the "FROG" week for freshman, but is this the only strenuous training they are given throughout there freshman year?
a)Is it similar to a freshman year at a senior military college

3. How many FTX's do they do per semester or year?

4. Overall how would you rate it?

Thanks everyone!

My son is a freshman there right now.

We also had never heard of it (even his high school counselors never heard of it), until a friend of mine suggested it because he went there. I have noticed that military people do know about it though.

I believe it was voted the #1 AROTC program in the country for the second straight year.

My son was a varsity wrestler all through high school and didn't think that FROG week was that challenging. When I dropped him off in August I noticed many big boys. He did say the big boys had a hard time, but overall, if you're in reasonably good shape, or an athlete, it's no big deal.

I don't know much of the military terminology, but I'm guessing that means the field training? They're supposed to have one "closed" weekend a month for this. Toward the end of the semester it seems like it's less and less due to finals coming up.

As a mom I am very pleased with the school. I can tell you that the #1 complaint my kid has is that he's bored. There's really not much to do there. It's more of a commuter school than a party school, most people leave for the weekend. The class size is relatively small, about 25-30 students per class. Sometimes there are lecture classes that will hold up to 80, but that's the most I've heard of. My son received his first semester grades and I"m proud to say that he did better in college than he EVER did in high school. I give credit to the "quarters" they have first semester freshman. Sunday-Thursday they are required to be in their rooms (except, of course, if they have a night class) from 8 pm on. They are allowed to have computers, phones, ipods, etc., but even with all that distraction it is hard NOT to study and do your work.

My son's first choice school was VMI for a long time until we drove to NGC to visit the campus and met with recruiters there. They made him feel wanted and offered money (unlike VMI) and the campus is beautiful. I was also very impressed with the 30 majors they have to offer, VMI has 12.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask here, or send me a PM. I could also put you in contact with my son for more insight.

P.S. - Another big reason my son chose this school was because it is also a civilian college. You have classes, chow, clubs, everything is co-ed civilan and military. So he feels like he is getting part civilian and part military college all together.
