We heard from North georgia. My daughter has been taken off the waitlist and has now been accepted!. She is SO excited. Even though Norwich gave her 14k per yr(56 k total) and Citadel is an instate school, North georgia still ends uo being the least expensive since they gove out of state students in state tuition. This makes it even better. I am thinking that is where she will be in August. Saw that FROG week for 8/2013 starts on August 12. That means I will be sending my daughter off at the tender age of 17 (she wont turn 18 until 8/16/13 right at the end of FROG week):frown:

hathcoam, my DS found out yesterday online he has been wait-listed at North Georgia as well. He has been accepted to Citadel and is still waiting to hear back from VMI. Can you give us any advise on how to improve DS's chances of getting off wait-list to full acceptance? Thanks for the help and congratulations to your daughter.

@ Bryson- keep North Georgia in the loop. In other words, keep them updated of changes if you think they are not important. We emailed Lt Col Antonia on numerous occasions with updates to activities. We also sent him a copy of her senior year 1st nine weeks grades (she had been waitlisted back in July). We kept him informed of the other schools she had been accepted to (including Norwich and the Citadel) and how much money they were offering but stressed that North Georgia was still her number one choice. Keep in mind that North Georgia uses strictly the Freshman Index to determine acceptance. this index is just test scores and GPA (they recalculate the Gpa to get all the filler non required stuff out). They take the GPA and testing scores and put them in this math fomula. In order to get automatically get accepted you have to have a score of 2500 or higher. Anything below that gets either waitlisted or denied depending on how low. My daughter had a borderline gpa (like 2.8 because of math) and a 24 ACT. It ended up giving her somewhere around a 2440. According to Lt Col Antonia, depending on number of spots they had left they would consider the reduction of the freshman index of 2500 to allow those that just missed the cutoff to be admitted. For those that still miss the cutoff, they will look at "whole person scores" from activities, etc in February to fill the rest of the class. keep in touch with the school and let tehm know your intentions and work on any deficiencies such as gpa. My daughters grades are much better this school year so I think that helped. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Hathcoam, my DS sent Lt Col Antonia an email and his 1st 9 week grades. He found out his index score was 2451. He has been asked to send an email stating what his goals are for college and after. All he's ever talked about is being an Officer in the Army Rangers or Special Forces. He is very much into weight lifting/body building and does a couple of sprint triathalons each year. DS wants to major in Excersise science, biology, or kenisology. DS explained we would be coming from Texas to the east coast to visit all three schools he's applied to (North Georgia, VMI, Citadel) in February. Lt Col Antonia wants to do an interview with him when he comes to Georgia. I feel DS will defanitly get accepted after his interview. He carries himself well and is a sharp young man. But I may be little bias, we'll see. DS was up front about still not being committed until he visits each of the schools though, unlike your DD who had already decided on NG. I can't blame him. He's the one who's got to live and learn there for four years. College tution is also a concern for him (and us) so NG is a very good option for that reason and many others. Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted.

Tuition is definitely better at NG. We visited North georgia and The Citadel. Both campuses are pretty for different reasons. The mountains around NG are stunning and you can see them from all parts of the campus. The residence halls for the cadets are brand new and beautiful. The drill field is stunning and is the centerpiece of the campus. Be prepared Lt Colonel Antonia will ask hardcore questions about future plans. He literally asked my daughter if she wanted to go in active duty when she graduates college and what she wants to do in the military. He lays it out the way it is-no crap so to speak. Citadel is pretty too-all of the buildings look like castles and the foyers inside the dorms look like chessboards. there are alot of intersting rules at the citadel-freshman cant have cars and you have to be in uniform within 25 miles of campus. We got a unique aspect because it was done with a woman advisor and a woman tour guide.

    North Georgia is AWESOME!

DS said North Georgia was better than he could have ever imagined. Many pluses about North Georgia. Like you said, everything is brand new. The cadet dorms are very nice. The food is excellent. The town of Dahlonega is literally right up next to the school. You can basically walk everywhere and really do not need a car. DS brought his car and only used it a couple of times a month. Cadets and regular students interact daily which is nice. DS completed 1st semester with a 3.9 gpa. He was involved in several club activities and studied to about midnight each night. He had a good roommate and his new friends on campus were all focused. With that said he was very busy and calls home were infrequent and short. Lastly, you can't beat the tuition at North Georgia. It is a senior military college and I am pretty sure its the least expensive one.
