Norwich University's Mountain Cold Weather Company made another successful ascent to the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. The company continues a long tradition of climbing to the peak of the mountain every year. Norwich's Mountain Cold Weather Company is unique as it is the only ROTC unit of its kind.

I wonder if Norwich's Mountain Cold Weather contingent has ever considered a friendly competition with UNG's Mountain Order of Colombo, like a Ranger Challenge course, only, focused on mountaineering skills.

Mountain??.....Now here's a Mountain. Cadets in the PNW get to play on this one.

All in Gest....The program at Norwich sounds great, what an opportunity.

UNG's Mountain Order uses a training regimen that is based on the Mountain Phase of US Army ranger training. I don't know much about either group to be honest. But your comment makes it sound as if you think the Norwich group is automatically superior. My point is wouldn't it be fun to see the two groups in an actual competition. That way you and I aren't competing based on... let's see... nothing but words in a forum post.

Whats kind of awesome is that Norwich's Mountain Cold Weather Company has established a partnership with the Mountain Warfare School where we get a handful of slots every year to send cadets to the school. This year an AFROTC cadet in the company got a slot to mountain school, which is pretty interesting since I have never heard of anyone in the Air Force who isn't Spec Ops getting a slot.

Will that be the Winter MWS?

    Has the cadet already gone.

My son completed the Winter MWS, it's a tough one, 11 out 18 in their company passed. I couldn't believe the knots they had to learn and be timed/tested, he showed me the drawings and made my head spin. Lots of sprains and bruises from climbing on the Ice.

Jcleppe, I am not 100% when he is scheduled to go or not but I am very positive that he will succeed. Almost all of our cadre in the company have successfully completed Mountain Warfare School with two of them being honor grads from there, so I am very confident that he will be able to pass the course without too much difficulty. I know how that feels, when I first joined my head was spinning too.

My son is interested in attending Norwich, all the way from Northern California, and appears the school has a lot to offer.

Welcome Verno! If you have any Norwich questions, my son is a freshman. There are also a few current cadets on here that check in from time to time. If you or your son have specific questions you can start a new thread and ask away! Not sure if you can PM if you have not posted enough.

Does anyone one know if the MCWC sends cadets to the Arctic course in Alaska? That extreme mountaineering course makes Vermont's mountain course looks like baby food.
That's where you earn the Arctic tab.

My son is a Junior and we hope to make a trip in the fall. Need to narrow down schools so we are not flying all over the country.

Can you pm to ask specific questions?
