Norwich University

Just a little update:

I was accepted to attend starting in the Fall of 2011 but could not get everything together for the Green to Gold program this year. Working with my admissions adviser we were able to have the acceptance forwarded to the Fall of 2012! So just four more months in the 'Stan and I PCS to Japan and then hopefully get that Green to Gold packet knocked out ASAP and get ready for school in a little over a year from now! Thanks everyone on here for the support and guidance, it's finally coming together :D

Norwich University Corps of Cadets

In followup to the statistical data. When I arrived in 1997 at Norwich there were 832 Cadets in the Corps and none of the other SMCs or Federal Academies were in competition with Norwich. Today we have 1454 Cadets and the data clearly shows our top three competitors are VMI, Annapolis and West Point, which means we are attracting higher quality students. For the past three years we have had record enrollments averaging 150 Cadets over our admissions goal. Change takes time at any institution and Norwich has experienced great change in the past ten-years since 2002. My own son attends Norwich and I am very proud of his accomplishments. Feet on the ground bud...feet on the ground...you have to come visit, as numbers don't always paint the whole picture and can be outdated.

Kudos to your son, LTC Davison!!! And kudos to Norwich! NORWICH FOREVER!! I will see you in October!

Thanks Colonel D

Currently it is 2/3 Corps and 1/3 Civilian Students. This year we opened with just over 1400 in The Corps of Cadets and 700+ Civilian Students. We recently built a really nice dorm for the students and for the most part they have moved off the Upper Parade ground. Plans are in the works for building another dorm in the next couple of years.

I had made a poor guess in my numbers. Thanks again for all that Norwich, you and your coworkers has done for my son and all the other students there.

This is really just a random thought, but are cadets are Norwich required to wear a uniform throughout the entire day? As in to class, club meetings, etc. Are cadets at any of the SMC's required to wear a uniform through out the day? I know at West Point they are.

Yes- at VMI all Cadets are required to wear their uniforms 24/7 (to include enroute from your room to the latrines- you have an issue Bathrobe) and you will not be allowed to maintain civilian clothes in barracks. I believe that you are allowed out of uniform when actually in the shower however

So here we go DS will attend Norwich University. This is the first school that he wanted to go to and while it was a long and winding road, he and we are so looking forward to being a part of the Norwich Community. As we are in the land of the Huskers, the distance may be somewhat of a challenge. Looks like we will be accumulating some frequent flyer miles.

At Norwich, yes you wear uniforms to class, club meetings, etc. Upperclassmen get to wear civilian clothes. A current cadet should chime in on what the Rooks are permitted to wear (I don't think they get to wear civilian clothes, and one of the favorite reststops on I-89 is the one between Exits 4 and 5, where the Rooks use the bathroom to change into jeans for their first trip home!).

Gee, bruno, at Norwich they make the Rooks wear their birthday suits in the shower!!

Upperclassmen get to wear civi clothes after the duty day, as a rook you are never out of uniform (nametags go on robes) but after recognition Rooks are allowed civi stuff after the duty day as well.

congratulations Hopeful Mom! :thumb:I travel in Nebraska for business periodically and I can honestly say- it's a lot different from Vermont! Good luck to your son and make sure that you keep us all in the loop as he progresses from Midwesterner to Yankee on his journey thru Norwich.

He loves guns, building stuff, the woods, skiing and general Tom Foolery. Will he fit in? BTW, where do we park the covered wagon?

After reading this forum, I just cant wait to get Rook year started. Congrats to all other prospective cadets who have received their acceptances!
