Sorry if this is a stupid or confusing question,

I didn't get into the summer seminar for the Air Force academy but I learned yesterday that I am a candidate for the class of 2021. Does applying to the summer seminar give you a higher chance of candidacy than pcq?

Sorry what is pcq?

DS is a C3C at USAFA now and was not accepted for SLS.

I was not selected for AFSS last year, but I am appointed for the c/o 2020. AFSS doesn't affect your chances that much, just make sure you improve your areas of weakness before the real decision (SAT's, ECA's, grades, etc).

Same here. DS did not get into summer seminar but received an appointment to the USAFA Class of 2020

My DD was not accepted to summer program but did attend volleyball sport camp (sport camps are open to all who sign up in time) at academy her sophomore and junior year. She received her appointment a few days ago. Work hard academically, stay involved in sports and improve your leadership qualities. Don't worry about SS.

DS applied for AFA Summer Seminar but was not selected. He has accepted his appointment to the USAFA class of 2020. Didn't seem to make any difference for DS

DD wasn't aware of summer program in time to apply but received her appointment as well. Advice about is great, keep working to do your best and look for opportunities to lead and contribute within your school and community.

I have heard that Admissions is often less likely to give out SS slots to potential candidates who they know are seriously interested. Since SS is largely a recruiting tool, why would they "waste" a slot on someone who has already decided to apply to USAFA? I have no data to support this, but it makes sense to me given the nature of the program.

I got rejected from SS, and I probably know at least as many current cadets who got turned down as got in. Don't worry about it. :thumb: Keep working hard!

Whatever you do, DON'T get discouraged! I was pretty turned off after being rejected to summer programs at USAFA, USMA, and USNA and spent a little while in a bit of a pity party. However, I decided to complete the process to the best of my ability and just see what happened. It ended very well with appointments to West Point and USAFA. I am now a member of USAFA class of 2020.

Moral of the story, don't get discouraged and sad. Just keep working hard and give it your BEST SHOT- these institutions deserve nothing less.
