I think I'm one of the many mail/portal stalkers out there..atleast I hope I am. I am wondering how candidate are first notified of their offer of admission. Is it through the mail? portal? phone call from MALO? Other?

My liaison called me and let me know before I received anything. I don't know if that is typical of liaisons to do, I just weekly touched base with mine so we had a good relationship. The next thing I received was my BFE about 4-5 days later, my portal still hasn't updated though so im sure that will be the last kind of notification you would receive

Congresswoman's office

Congresswomans office emailed me.. Said WP was sending me an Appointment.
3 days later it came

All of the above. It varies by candidate. Of course its never official until the BFE arrives.

Our DS was told by the MOC's office first that LOA was coming. He was waiting on a letter and got the Appointment Binder/Letter instead. So I guess there is not formal way. Saw two MOC nom's appear on the portal first though. No other info. I think some people do know but can't say anything b/c it's not official until the school says it is.

Same thing for Merchant Marine. Don't know anything on Navy yet.

Keep stalking...it's fun. :thumb:

My cadet never heard a word from anyone....MALO, Senator, West Point...no one. We found his appointment package leaning against the garage door because it was too big to fit in the mailbox.

I actually found out in kind of a funny way.

My MALO sent me an email inviting me to a sort of picnic barbecue for next year's cadets held annually in my state. At the top of the email, there was a line that said, "If you are receiving this email, it is because you have been offered an appointment to West Point" and such. A couple days later, the acceptance package showed up in my mailbox with the official letters. Never got an email or a call. Just a package in the mail, but I knew I had an appointment a few days earlier because of that email

As is evidenced by the posts above, appointees hear all kinds of ways.

But this is how it is suppose to happen -
On Tuesdays, the admissions committee meets to vote on Appointments. Once a candidate receives the :thumb: from the admissions committee, they notify the MOC and then give the MOC 72 hours to contact the candidate to congratulate them. :yay: WP likes to give the MOC the first chance to tell the candidate. Some MOCs do - some MOCs don't.

After the 72 hours, then the candidate can be told by whomever. Usually, if a candidate is not told by the MOC, then the notification is by mail with the BFE. WP usually mails the BFEs either on Tuesday or Wednesday to be received by the candidate by Friday.

I use 'usually' a lot because there are always exceptions.
But 'usually' a candidate will know by the Friday after a Tuesday admissions meeting if they have received an appointment or not - usually.

Very useful comments guys! I am not really expecting anything until March because they are giving everyone on the NWL until then to beef up their apps, but there's still a shred of hope I'll get the go ahead admission from my Presidential nomination...if not I'll have to pray my congressional will get me in around March.
