November NROTC board results known?

Is it just me or is the suspense with these NROTC boards driving you all crazy too????

I'm ASSuming they are meeting again this week but all this hush, hush, is just making me sooooo anxious. I know some people have heard back with positive results but this waiting game is getting old! Anyone else out there feeling the same?

Yes!

luckymacy,

Thanks so much for your intel- it certainly makes a lot of sense. However, I've spoken to several people who are somewhat involved in the NROTC process and I haven't heard anything similar to what you said. Would you say that this person was sure of what they were saying and not merely speculating? I've learned to understand that a lot of what's said regarding the NROTC scholarship process is pure speculation.

This person told me they've had their current civil service NROTC job for over 20 years and told me some of the things I thought about the process and dates were close but not exactly right and then proceeded to straighten me out. They are the same person we interviewed with at the university in the fall when we visited and they were very professional and informed. We would NOT be here now if not for her quick action with us. So you can make up your own mind. This is the only person I know. If anyone else has a relationship with someone plugged into a NROTC detachment TODAY and can add anything else about THIS YEARS ACTUAL PROCESS AND DATES I'm all ears.

Works for me. I guess the review board is taking their own winter vacation...

Their det commander has flown down twice to review candidate packages.

The NROTC "board" sounds like it consists of the "det commander". Does the Navy have Detachments? I'm probably wrong but I thought they were units. January should be interesting.

My understanding is that the review board is comprised of different senior officers. When I visited my top choice school, I interviewed with the Captain who told me he had sat on NROTC review boards in the past. Didn't know that current unit commanders serve on the review board...

It would not surprise me if some people who had already been selected still hadn't found out yet just based on how slowly the website gets updated. We asked for change in our schools, eventually recieved an email stating it would be changed but still haven't seen the web site update. Part of their curious reply was "Please allow sufficient time for these changes to reflect in the system." It begs the question they'll never answer as to just WHAT IS THEIR SYSTEM? Seems to be running on an ENIAC computer...

A 4"x6" chalk board, and a 5"x7" white-erase board.

My son received a marine ROTC scholarship yesterday, we were told that was the first board.

Congratulations CandidateInSD to you and your son! :thumb:

Thank you kindly, good luck to you too! We are in San Diego, if that helps anyone else wondering.

We received an email from our local coordinator yesterday, he didn't indicate when the board had met, but I would venture a guess that it was probably a day or two prior to them notifying us. Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll hear soon about yours, but I absolutely understand your anxiety, we are still waiting to hear about a nomination to USNA.

With the AF ROTC freeze going on and the reference to shrinking AF ROTC budget likely indirectly due to economic conditions, I can't help but wonder if this isn't a major reason why the results to date for the NROTC scholarships hasn't gone much like our regional coordinator thought it would. Oh well, we'll see in January. BTW, they still haven't made the changes on their website yet we put in for on Nov 22nd.

Checking In

Good Morning,

I wanted to check in with you....confessing to having some anxiety with the NROTC process. Your post continues to give me hope as I think I am a strong and competitive candidate.

Since making this post...do you still feel the information is reliable?

Thanks and my hope that you are enjoying the holiday season.

Charlie

QUOTE=luckymacy;147454]I just talked to a NROTC campus rep who told me the Navy doesn't have a series of set board dates like the Marines and Air Force do. Their det commander has flown down twice to review candidate packages. They are reviewed 'blindly' meaning names and school choices are not known to the reviewers. One interesting tidbit is that they haven't picked many yet and won't anymore until January when the process will pick up quickly and this person advised that starting in mid January you can start to check the site 2 times a day including in the evenings and you will start to see a lot of action. This person also said that each school can only have 25 max scholarship students but often before April the school's list can have over 50 or 60 scholarship kids then all of a sudden drop to below 25 after April because the board is very aware of who has enrolled to service academys and their chances of getting in and sure enough those same kids are late selections to Academies and drop off the ROTC rolls. Also, the website will be the first place anyone outside the board will learn of a positive decision including us and if the website hasn't changed by now then you aren't going to be considered again until January when they board activity picks back up. That's what I got out of the conversation anway...[/QUOTE]
