now what? ... after the appointment acceptance

Please make that "predominantly WHITE" running shoes. Sorry.

About the "predominantly white" running shoes, do they have to be the exact pair that is sold in the MID store or can they just be New Balance Predominantly white?

Also another interesting question, do you have a choice on the type of underwear that they issue (boxers, briefs, etc)?

Thanks so much,

Dan

Thanks to all for the great info! Glad we are now in the boat, so to speak, of needing it.

One thing my older Navy son found invaluable during his boot camp was foot powder. He took several with him and ended up sharing a lot with others. (and that was during winter in Great Lakes) Is this something my future plebe should consider as well?

So glad I had the opportunity to help my sailor outfit his room when we took him to his first duty station this past weekend. Sounds like I won't have the opportunity for son #2, but I certainly have no regrets! (And, yes, my older son is PROUD that he will have to salute his kid brother! :thumb:)

Foot powder....yes, we sent that too.

Start collecting these things now.......along with cards to send. Gives you something to do as you approach I-Day.

I'm telling you, the waiting has just begun. Last spring, I-Day seemed light years away, then the first phone call, second phone call, and finally, after waiting forever, PPW.

Make sure your high school has the info for awards/scholarship type events. Coordinate with BGO.

Also, I printed up a little thing that went with son's graduation announcements that told what he was doing and that he did not need the "traditional" graduation gifts. I agonized over the wording.....didn't want to brag, didn't want to ask for cash or gift cards.....anyway I guess it came out right as many commented that they appreciated knowing what his plans were. And he only got one set of navy blue towels monogrammed with his initials in gold! And lots of cash and gift cards. I bought some blank stationery at a card shop with a patriotic border, cut it into quarters and printed so the border was on two sides of the print.

One of you should start a thread asking what to get for high school graduation.........some gift cards are more useful than others in Annapolis. Son got a Pizza Hut card and tried to order pizza one Sunday afternoon when they were watching football in their ward room only to find out Pizza Hut does not deliver to USNA. FYI, Papa John's recognizes the opportunity at USNA and has an ongoing contest as to which company will order the most pizzas by year's end and the winner will, of course, get more pizza!

Anyway, there will be many useful suggestions for grad gifts. That thread was quite helpful to me last year.

Good luck!

Schneidly13,

It can be any pair of predominately white running shoes, preferrably broken in already.

For whatever reason my daughter's running shoes were not left with her on I-Day but returned at PPW.

Running shoes should be the ones that fit your son/daughter the best ... whatever the color ... they wear them for training ... our son's shoes had white in them, but lots of blue too ... that's the brand/style for his foot pattern (overpronator) ... our experience: they don't care. making plebes run in arbitrary foot gear can and does cause injury ... so they march in the issued gear and run in their own shoes ... (at least last year!)

We sent a full complement of underwear and socks. He used the underwear (the long knit boxers from Costco) ... and asked for more ... laundry is somewhat sporatic. Yes the USNA provides underwear too, but according to my guy ... it really chaffes ... the USNA socks were fine ... though he hates the high tops they make plebes wear ...

he never used the white t-shirts we bought him (they were on the list of what to bring) because plebes are required to wear the "blue rims" issued.
Contrats and good luck!
