NROTC at Citadel vs. VMI

As was mentioned earlier, before this got off track, the quality of a school's graduates is just one of many factors (not the only factor) to consider when making a decision. JPJ asked for input to his question about VMI and the citadel.
Bottom line, while there are similarities, there are also marked differences. For example, bob80q believes mecep students are a real positive to the citadel's ROTC program--I see his point, but I disagree. VMI opted not to participate with the program because the students would not be cadets living in barracks. Many ROTC programs have mecep students, but no service academies have mecep or civilian students, and neither does VMI. Just another example of the many differences between the programs...

bob80q--a stellar example of the citadel you are... :thumb: and speaking of stellar examples, how about we share the stellar example of the NROTC/citadel grad that ran the summer kids camp at the citadel... Why was that camp shut down again?
Now that's a big difference between the schools...

Back to the point, JPJ was asking for differences between the programs. Although there are some similarities, there are also some big differences. Location, student body size and consistency, all-military or military+civilian+mecep, and the quality of it's graduates--These are all factors to consider when formulating a decision.
Again JPJ, in the end you'll make the right decision... I'd just recommend you stay away from any summer camps at the citadel!

Really, this is how you respond.

Afraid I have to agree with bob80q on this one.

DS picked Norwich because it had the fanciest of all the SMC uniforms. Wearing those uniforms (formal and semi formal) has helped him greatly in his military career.

This thread is stupid.

Couldn't agree more.

Thanks. Wish to say that DS has a friend who graduated from one of these two schools who did something very brave and was wounded this past summer. No media attention or any stories on it. I do think the world of the graduates of both these schools.

Well- I've been travelling this weekend with only a BlackBerry and finally got to a place where I could log on with my Computer- and promptly see the state of this particular thread. At this point- while I am glad to see that the thread has settled down (thanks NorwichDad), but I am extremely peeved that it got this way. I will be blunt - Folks- I'm not issuing any more warnings on this or any other threads on the SMC or ROTC forums about "whose alma mater is better". Flat out- this is a forum that is designed to provide factual information and assist prospective Cadets in their college search. There are lots of differences between all of the SMCs
(and for that matter all colleges and ROTC units)- which include: location, size of the school, size of the Corps of Cadets, size and age of the facilities, majors offered, class sizes. cost and relative availability of financial aid, physical requirements, average SAT and GPA scores for new or recently entered classes, NCAA & Club sports offered, relative toughness of your mascot  etc... Virtually none of those things is a better/worse proposition across the board- rather they are differences that may or may not matter to the individual. If all you can do to tout your own school is to make negative comments about another school- then you flunked your Freshman English persuasive writing class. More importantly- you will find yourself unwelcome to participate in this forum. In short - what is normal when sitting at the bar with a beer in hand surrounded by your fellow alums and the alums of your ach rival is NOT OK in this forum and I'm not wasting anymore time explaining this. So KNOCK IT OFF.

But you would find yourself very welcome in Washington, D.C. these days.

I think we can all agree Bears are very ferocious and would win in a fight with a goat, donkey, falcon or eagle.

Yep that's true- I know of no one who lives in terror at the thought of "Mo the Kangeroo" coming thru the line at them:rolleyes:

+1 Bruno. Wish to say that where ever you go to school, your outcome is 99.9999% dependant on what you do. Everyday is a new opportunity to surprise the world and yourself with your own actions.

Well, that's not entirely true. As an independent outside observer, I strongly expect the falcon and the eagle could escape the bear. The goat and donkey are definitely dinner though.

That goes back to fight or flight.... but I'm only referring to "fight".

OK, and as much as I hate to admit it, Mo the Kangaroo would be dead meat too.
