It's a little early compared to former years, probably about two weeks before people really start to hear. I know it sucks but hurry up and wait :D

DD heard today she was not selected at first board so I imagine people will start to hear any time now.

@Teragram how did DD hear? Was there a portal change or an email? Inquiring minds want to know, because I did not think there was notification when someone was boarded but deferred to the next board.

Her portal has not changed but she received an email from her regional coordinator with the news and suggestions on where she could strengthen her file for next board.

In my experience the Marine Corps notifies people when they are not selected by the board. After all, there are only two boards so it's not the same amount of effort and cost it would be for Navy, Army, etc. Also, remember that MO boards are at the district level so there may be some small variance in dates between them (I would think). The notifications after the second board for non-selects also includes information on how the applicant can still pursue a commission as a Marine Officer.

EDIT: It was several years ago now, but as I recall DS was informed via email both times. He also received snail mail after a negative reply from the second board.

Everyones input is helpful...free therapy! Lol! We live in very large city and I do not know one other person going through this process. No news here for my DS but I'll post as soon as he hears something.

Hang tough. It's a long process and even without the scholarship it is still possible to become a Marine Officer as my own son can attest. Wishing nothing but good news for you.

EOD/SEALmom: Your DD is in school and got a 3-year correct? OP is interested in timing of award announcements for 4-year applications. As others have posted, the first board's scholarship announcements typically come out in mid-late December.

My son didn't get the 4 year national scholarship as a h.s. senior, but reapplied before he entered college as a college program mid. He was awarded the 4 year national scholarship during the early board the 1st semester of his freshman year. [If you search some of my old posts, there is a recap of the whole experience.] Hang tough and charge forward.

Just reread the original post. My son was notified that he got the scholarship during the early board in mid-December.

She is a freshman at a SMC, but she actually won a four year. (I think Marine scholarships are all four year). However it doesn't start until fall of 2017 so she will only use 3 years of it. She applied for USNA and NROTC last year as a senior, but was turned down for both. Joined the Marine unit as a college programmer at the SMC and applied for the MO scholarship.

When she was told she won, they told her they had awarded ten scholarships. I do not know what that means, whether it was just the first ten or if there will be more. We were surprised she was notified so early, had been told to expect news sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
