My DS is applying for a NROTC Marine Option scholarship. He submitted his application online and is waiting to schedule his interview and PFT. He wants to make the first board and his recruiter is telling him they will get the PFT done at the end of August and do the interview by the end of September for the October board. I thought that they did the interview and PFT at the same time. Does this sound right?

Doing them simultaneously is what I hear of most often on these forums. Certainly my son's experience was that they were done at the same time, but there is no requirement that they do so. If it's more convenient for you to do them at the same time due to travel distance or something, I'm confident that could be arranged.

PT- Interview

My son's experience last year was that they were not scheduled at the same time. He did his PT test one week followed by interviews the following week with two different officers that were also scheduled at separate times.
