NROTC MO option

I got a letter informing be I was turned down. This came as a shock to me and my recruiters, seeing as I had a 2260 SAT/35 ACT/300 PFT and good grades, several leadership spots in extra-curricular stuff, etc. I'm going to see if I can get into the local unit as a non-scholarship student; we'll se how that goes. Congrats to those who made it!

Sorry to hear the news nroyer. As hard as it is, don't dwell on the "why". It is what it is.

Focus on the goal and build a plan. Last I checked, more USMC officers came from the PLC program than any other pathway. College Programmer, PLC, OCC are all options to evaluate.

Best of luck!

As I got the call last night from my XO telling me of my selection, my portal changed today, and notified me of my school selection. So anyone who is waiting to hear about NROTC/MO check your portals!

Just received word from OSO that DS did not receive. It will be PLC. Thanks so much to everyone on this forum for your comments. It has been a great help throughout this process.

Ok my portal also changed :)! I was awarded my first choice, no shock since I'm already a freshman here! Hope everyone else gets placed in their top choice schools!

DS's portal changed mid day and identified his school selection. He was awarded the scholarship to his second choice school (OOS) which worked out well for him. He did not get accepted to his first choice which was a reach. Can't wait to see him tonight and celebrate his accomplishment.

TEG: sorry to hear the news. Don't let this disappointment set you back. Sounds like you have a plan and I encourage you to attack with intensity.

As a reference for others that may find one way blocked I wanted to provide the following:

https://www.trngcmd.usmc.mil/OCS/Lists/Commissioning Sources/AllItems.aspx

"There are multiple ways to earn a commission as a United States Marine Officer. The only Marine officers who are commissioned and do not graduate from Officer Candidates School are appropriately screened and evaluated at the United States Naval Academy. All other Marine officers graduate from one of four officer training programs held at Brown Field, the home of Marine Corps Officer Candidates School. Below are the basics of the four programs:
Officer Candidates Course (OCC) is a 10-week commissioning program for those who already hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. OCC classes are held three times a year, in fall, winter, and summer.

Platoon Leaders Class (PLC) is either two 6-week programs called PLC Juniors and Seniors or a single 10-week program called PLC Combined in which undergraduate college students attend OCS during their summer break. Candidates cannot enroll in PLC Seniors without succesfully completing the Juniors course. Upon successful completion of OCS, these officer candidates return to their respective colleges to finish their degree requirements before receiving a commission.

Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) is a scholarship program that provides money for college in return for a commitment to serve at least four years as an active duty Marine Officer. NROTC students receive various classes on Naval Science during the course of their four year college program and attend OCS the summer prior to their senior year. NROTC Marine Option students must successfully complete a 6-week program at OCS to be commissioned as Marine Officers.

Enlisted to Officer Commissioning Programs:

Enlisted Commissioning Program (ECP) provides those enlisted Marines who already hold a bachelor's degree the opportunity to commission. Qualified Marines attend OCS and commission upon successful completion of the program.

Meritorious Commissioning Program (MCP) provides enlisted Marines with an associate's degree or 75 semester credit hours the opportunity to commission. Qualified Marines attend OCS and commission upon successful completion of the program and earning their bachelor's degree.

Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Educational Program (MECEP) provides outstanding enlisted Marines who do not yet have their degree the opportunity to become Marine Officers. Applying Marines must be active duty of the rank of Cpl or above. If accepted, they will attend a college with an NROTC program and commission upon completion of a 6-week program at OCS and earning their bachelor's degree. NROTC midshipmen and MECEP Marines attend the same training program.

Oh my gosh!! DS got his first choice - NC State!! We are incredibly psyched!

I haven't been on here in a while to answer questions. But love coming on here to see how excited people get when results are released. One of the main things that make my job worth doing.

Congrats!

finally

I finally got an email from someone who worked on my packet telling me I was not awarded the NROTC MO scholarship. No worries though, I received an appointment to USAFA this morning! Still waiting on final word from USNA.

Congrats to everyone awarded!

Congratulations to everyone who won a scholarship (or an appointment to an academy). As USMCGrunt pointed out, don't get discouraged if you didn't receive a scholarship. As he said there are multiple paths to a commission. My son did not receive a scholarship but enrolled as a college programmer and won a sideload scholarship in Dec. of his sophomore year (which he is finishing now). Determination and hard work can get you to the goal regardless of the obstacles.

I got the good news from the XO of my recruiting district this morning!!! Good luck to those who haven't heard yet.

Congratulations Semperfi50! DS is wrapping up his 1st year at U of M and has enjoyed his 1st year; some adjustments the 1st semester, but smooth sailing after that. He is NROTC Navy Option, but does endurance team which is mostly MO. He really likes the Wolverine Battalion.

GO BLUE! :thumb:

Is there any way to check the portals anymore? I cant access the site for some reason..was it taken down now that the results are finalized?
