NROTC MO side load scholarship

Kinnem,
So glad to hear your good news! Congratulations to your son! We live in Gamecock country and have probably seen your son running around campus. Enjoy Hawaii :thumb:

Thanks again all. It's been quite an adventure and will continue to be even more exciting. Philmont, I'm sure you have seen him running around campus. If it's a PFT run he should be towards the front of the pack wearing Marine green PFT gear. He would be the handsome one with the glazed look in his eyes!

Congrats.

Just out of curiosity what will happen to those that were not picked up? I thought at one time you had said NROTC is like AFROTC where after soph. yr it is their make or break. Is that also for MO too?

Thanks Pima.

Those sophomores who did not receive scholarships will have another opportunity in the spring. As part of that same process, if they do not receive the scholarship, the application is used to determine if they will be offered Advanced Standing. If they receive Advanced Standing they will get the stipend, but no scholarship. If they don't receive Advanced Standing they will be dropped. I have no idea what the historical numbers are when it comes to receiving Advanced Standing. I do know my son's battalion has only one sophomore MO college programmer remaining and based on what I know of him he'll receive Advanced Standing at least.

It's my understanding that Navy Options follow the same process, but its a separate board just like the four year high school scolarships.

Congrats to you and your son! You have been a great source of advice to others on this forum, and I am glad to see you/he get your just rewards!

Hey Kinnem!!! So HAPPY to see your news this morning!!!! Congratulations to your DS and congratulations to you and your wife too!!! Your DS's journey certainly proves "good things CAN and DO come to those who wait!!!" What a celebration around your home for this holiday season! And if you do in fact go on that Hawaii vacation, feel free to look up my DD (Marine Lt.) and her husband (Navy SEAL) who are now stationed there. Seriously, they'd love it!! Their front porch is feet away from the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean! Again, congratulations and CELEBRATE!!!

Congratulations to you and your son! Please relay my thanks to him for his service.

Thanks for the info kinnem.

I would guess with those low numbers kids may feel the stress even more regarding the next selection round.

Again, congrats to your DS.

Having been in your spot myself, I know the joy you are feeling! Congratulations!

Just saw the news.

Congratulations to your son and your family. What a great accomplisment for your son.

I hear Cancun is nice this time of year, of course Maui is not bad either.

Thanks again all. Actually I think my bride was jesting but one never knows. She REALLY seems intent on a new kitchen and lord knows we need one. I don't think any of the appliances work reliably anymore
