NROTC Scholarship Applicants

Hi Guys, just wanted to ask a very general opinion of all of the NROTC Scholarship applicants this year, as well as the posters that would have been following the ROTC threads last year.

I didn't receive the scholarship last year, and have reapplied for it this year, but I've noticed that the process seems to be a bit different. Besides the obvious differences (a PT test for Navy Options being one), I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be the steady stream of recipients and denials that there was this time late year. I remember last year, about every two weeks or so we had a bunch of people getting good and bad news, but I haven't seen a thread on here since Christmas involving actual scholarship recipients or denials. Perhaps it will heat up more now that the application portal is closed, but does anyone have any opinions/info to offer?

Thanks to all of the posters who have helped me out on my few other posts- it was a tricky thing applying for this thing on the other side of the planet (I'm in New Zealand for a working holiday) but wether or not I get it, I'm very grateful for all the help people give! This forum is a fantastic resource for aspiring officers of our nations military.

Thanks in advance for all replies, best of luck to my future coworkers! ;)

Yah I was surprised as well that few people announced in January as well, but hey February could be different.

We are still waiting to hear also--application finished in late Nov 2014. Son has 3.7 GPA and 1350 CR/M SAT and some leadership activities (student council) and 40+ hours volunteering. He's probably a "definite maybe" for a scholarship, but we would be grateful if it worked out. :) Best of luck to all.

AlastairRussell - I agree with you, as I followed these threads closely last year, as well as this year. My daughter got a NROTC last year and my son was selected for his NROTC early this year, as well It definitely seems much slower this year. It feels as if there are fewer boards this year. I'm wondering if they have significantly cut the number of scholarships this year or maybe they are just waiting to see the bulk of the applicants' files before making decision?

+1 USMAROTC

Although my son heard late last year, there were a lot more posts from people by this time than there are this time around. Not sure what that all means but hopefully the boards light up soon for all those still waiting. Good luck!

I'm told there is going to be a board on Monday the 9th, so fingers crossed everyone! They may have just started having board later, my recruiter says that starting now there will be boards every two weeks, so we hopefully should start seeing a more steady stream of decision, be them good or bad.

DS submitted his application last Aug/Sept, and was granted a 4 (1/2) year in Oct.

Good luck, and I'm looking forward to everyone's good news! :)
