NROTC scholarship notification

My portal has always said that. Even when I changed my schools they were changed that day.

Just found out on the portal that I received the scholarship to my 1st choice school, Ole Miss! Had my application in since August so the wait has been tough. Good luck to those still waiting!

CONGRATS to those who received the GOOD news today!

We were hoping today would be the day our DS would have heard something but his status still says "no decision"...so we continue to wait...

NROTC notification

My son just received notification that he was awarded a tier one scholarship (electrical engineering) for Duke University, which was his first choice. He has been accepted to three of the other schools on his list, but we will not be notified of the Duke admissions decision until April. If he is not accepted to Duke, will he have enough time to request a transfer of his scholarship to another school?

Last year they didn't even start addressing transfer requests until April. I expect he'll be fine. Of course nothing is ever guaranteed. It might help to contact the unit at Duke and also let admissions know of the scholarship.

Neither here nor there, but the Marine Officer Instructor at my son's NROTC unit is a Duke NROTC grad. Great unit.

Will this help? My DS is in the same situation. He has been accepted to two of his five colleges, but his top three choices will not notify of acceptance until April 1. His scholarship has been assigned to his number one choice and this is the school he really wants to attend. He has notified both the NROTC unit Commander and his admissions counselor of the scholarship assignment, but heard nothing back from anyone.

It may help or it may not. A lot depends on the college itself and/or whether or not the unit has any influence whatsoever with admissions. My own thinking is it cannot hurt, especially since any of the ROTC programs pay the full rack rate. Of course some schools are too haughty to allow themselves to come under any outside influence, especially a ROTC program. Living within a 30 minute drive of Duke, they don't strike me as being quite that haughty. YMMV.

It may not help but why not try?

Based on what I have seen on this forum over the years, most schools are blind to the ROTC scholarship process and there is no formal link between the unit and admissions. In this case, it probably won't help.

But there are some schools where the unit has a link to admissions and notification of the scholarship can help.

If you haven't done so, I would start with speaking to someone live at the NROTC unit. I doubt the CO is the one who would work with admissions. I am sure it is someone on his staff (if anyone - per the above). But its worth calling and asking if they can pass on the news and what they feel about doing so.

Best of luck!

Edit: Kinnem - you beat me by a minute!

It looks like there was not much blog activity after last week's announcements. Do you think the avalanche of good news will come soon? Anyone have any words of wisdom for those of us who are going crazy with anticipation?

Nothing yet on our end. Just stalking the mailbox.....checking portals like a mad man!!

Well, here's what I'm telling myself so I don't stress out completely: Since Jan 31 was the deadline for the scholarship application, they now have all the apps they're going to get. So now they can really review and compare what they have and make mass decisions. Waiting is so hard!

I am an old man now, and I have dome my share of hurry up and wait. It does NOT get any easier....

best of luck to you though!

Got the sad news late yesterday...not selected for a scholarship. Plan B now in action; at least we know early enough to enact plan B. We'll try for the 2 or 3 year scholarship option. I hope others are getting better news. Good luck to you all through this process!
