I recently received a 4-year NROTC Navy Option Scholarship to NC State University. It was my fifth choice school and I was very set on Texas A&M. I sent in a transfer request the other day to be put on the wait list for A&M, which I have heard has 25 spaces or so. How likely is it for everyone on the wait list to be given a spot?

Thanks

Congratulations. Don't know the answer to your question but, while it's far different from Texas A&M, you'll find NC State to be a fine school if you end up there.

Two years ago (so I have no clue how relevant it will be at this time!), my son had his scholarship assigned to MIT but was deferred there in December. He requested to be placed on the wait lists for Northwestern, Michigan and RPI. In the meantime he was accepted to MIT in March so was happy keeping his scholarship there, but did receive notification (but not until April 22!) that he had received slots off the waitlist for all three of the other schools. I would hope that it would be optimistic that you would get off the waitlist for the NROTC scholarship, but wanted to warn it might not be until late in the game.

DS is not yet accepted into his assigned school so he was advised to:

1. contact the school and advise admission of the scholarship,
2. contact the unit to have them possibly lobby with admissions on his behalf,
3. submit waitlist requests to several schools,

Several schools: Penn State, VaTech, UCSD and ERAU already had waitlists of 25 students (Navy option) and were closed.

NSTC will start working wailists early to mid April.

Thank you for the replies and the advice/helpful info. I was told by the lady in charge of the wait list/placement this afternoon that she tries to squeeze everyone in, but she can't promise anything. That's fine, beggars can't be choosers right?

She did say if it is an in state tuition school for you, they are going to be more inclined since it will save them money, just an FYI. Thanks again.

DS received email today offering him slot off of the waitlist to Texas A&M for NROTC. It was originally awarded to SUNY Maritime. He had accepted the AFROTC scholarship to Texas A&M. Decision time.

Congrats, I found out that I got off the wait list at another school but I think I'm going to hold out and wait for that spot (hopefully) to open up at A&M. Thanks for the update and best of luck in the decision your child makes!
