NROTC Status changed...to "we are sorry, you were not selected for a scholarship"

Agree Navywife. The difference could have been a few SAT points or school choice, or the budget this year compared to 2 years ago which makes the candidates incredibly strong. Pima makes a good point, It is not over until the DD/DS says it is. If they give up on being an officer after one rejection, In reality it probably isn't the right choice for them anyway. IMO.

Im very sorry to all of those who didn't get it. I went for my pre-knob stay at the Citadel yesterday and today and everyone I spoke to, army-contract, marine-contract, airforce-contract, they all agreed the MArines was the toughest to get. Where can I check my status? I haven't in months and now have forgotten what I did to find it. Thanks for your help

Just talked to my son's recruiter...Marine Option NROTC results will be released 3/15/11. Of course, I expect that will change like everything else!

Checked DS status, and where it used to say "your application....."(can't recall actual statement) it is now blank.

It now looks like this:

The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application.

Selection Status
Additional Information...

I have looked at this page so many times I can't remember what the first line usually says.....do you think your DS status of "NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application" is different?
My DS page says this too but it still says "no decision has been made on your application".

Crazy.....

this process is so crazy. From what I'm reading you can be a first year plebe and your status can still say "no decision has been made". since I keep getting "Rolled Over" from the November board ,I'm not sure to be happy or unsure I will ever find out. Someone said it may determine your slot depending on scholarships available at the schools you choice. Others say the board never looks at what schools you pick until they decide. All I know is other than more sports that I may have played others on here certainly have better SAT scores than I do. Granted I have a high GPA at a tough school but it makes me wonder why I keep getting rolled over. I started thinking that my app. was lost. Then I just emailed to have my school list changed and I got an email back that it was updated. Logging onto the status page is like checking the numbers on a lottery ticket....very nerve wracking !

:( I am sorry for all those not selected.

School choices have nothing to do with selection, just placement.

Alot of schools are closing to out of state. A few are closed all together for Navy. Texas A&M, Embry Riddle, Norwich, Florida, Colorado, Villanova, and couple of others I can't think of right now. The farther along you are selected, the harder it is for placment into a top school choice.

Basically.

I would just like to know if there is any reasoning on continuously rolling over an applicant. What are they waiting or looking for?

So, I'm just wondering....all those SA candidates who are waiting for an appoinment and receive one, how long is it before they can accept the offer? I'm assuming that ROTC is waiting to hear if these students are going SA or are taking their offer.

I'm sure this is tough on their part as well waiting to hear if they took the SA offer or will accept the ROTC one. It seems like a crazy circle!:eek3:

Am i making any sense here?

You are totally making sense. This is an unusual year. Currently, the deadline is May 1, but I would expect the SAs this year to pressure appointees to make selections sooner.

Good, because I found a thread in March of last year called "who is still waiting?" and the SA peeps were still waiting til April 19/20th to hear they received the TWE. Therefore those eventually took the ROTC scholarship.

I really need to quit sitting at this computer.

Interesting. Since the SAs gave the May 1st date in the appointment letters, how do you think the SAs will go about pressuring appointees to commit sooner?

IMHO - being "rolled over" is better than not being rolled over. My guess is that candidates that are continuing to meet additional boards (and not rejected) are on the cusp of being selected. Close but not quite there....yet. As more students are selected from the top your package moves up the selection "pile". Combined with some uncertainty (cautiousness?) within the Navy about how many scholarships they can actually award....all you can do is keep waiting and be somewhat happy that you still have a chance and are being considered.
Good Luck! :thumb:

West Point did it last year. In early April they sent out letters/emails to a large number of applicants changing their reply date from May 1 to April 15th. I have a copy of it somewhere that I saw from our RC and from another parent. The general wording was simply "if you do not accept the appointment before April 15th, your file will be closed".

Why did WP decide last year to move up the date just 30 days before May 1st? For that matter why do the SAs use the same May 1st college decision day that civilian colleges use? I'm having difficulty understanding the reasoning of saying the decision day is May 1st but then moving it depending on the current needs of the SA. Especially on short notice like WP evidently did last year.

For those that had the blank after Selection Status last week, my son's status was updated today. He got a 4 year, but at his 4th choice school.

Good luck to those still waiting. :thumb::thumb:
