Hello,

I was wondering if anybody happened to know what the reputation of the San Diego NROTC Unit (based out of SDSU/SDU) is? Are they a good program? Do they participate in activities at/with the surrounding military bases? How are the instructors?

In addition, does anyone know about the unit at George Washington University? Are they a good program? What type of activities do they participate in at/with the surrounding bases since most of the bases in DC are ceremonial/HQ? How are the instructors?

Thank you for your help. If anyone happens to have a DS/DD at one of these units please let me know, I'd love to message you for more information.

One thing to keep in mind is that instructors/staff rotate on an average of every 3 years or so. The personality of unit (and sometimes quality of instruction) could vary with the PNS and the staff at the time.

A lot of units have great traditions -- and within budgetary constraints -- probably continue time honored traditions and activities of that particular unit.

Having said that, I will defer to those that have had mids go through those particular programs.

A lot of units will have web pages or Facebook pages with pictures throughout the years. Those can give insight to the unit activities.

Is GW associated with U of Maryland? DS was talking cadres with a mud and Maryland came up

GW is the local NROTC consortium for DC/NoVa/MD area schools. U-MD NROTC unit is new, stands up fall 2016, if I recall correctly. I ran into the prospective PNS last year. UMBC unit is also new. Good to see increased NROTC opportunities in DC-Balt corridor.

I agree U of Maryland is a great school! I think the driving was the big issue the guy was saying but must be different group.

If you were a MD student in College Park, you had to drive or Metro to GW in DV for NROTC, as many others from local colleges and universities did. That changed fall 2016.

Anyone have any info on the Holy Cross Battalion. DS has 4 year NROTC for cross town affiliate WPI. Thanks!

prj888, my DS is finishing up his 4C year at USD. He absolutely loves the unit/school/professors so much he decided against reapplying to USNA. USD supports the unit by offering room and board; details are in the FAQ's on USD's NROTC unit webpage.

One of the perks of being in SD is having access to the bases.

I highly recommend the SD unit.

Message me for specific questions.
