NROTC version of "Anyone still waiting out there?"

"ALL CLEAR"

As of this morning (March 24) the following message no longer appeared on the NROTC scholarship status page!! Maybe this means decisions will be posted next week??!! Those of you who have been waiting 8, 9, 10 months since completing the application (10 months for DS!!) well everyone really, BEST OF LUCK!!

"The Naval Education and Training Command domain will participate in Exercise Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield 2012, an anti-terrorism/force protection exercise conducted on all continental United States Naval installations, March 19 - 24, 2012. As part of this exercise, normal operations may be impacted, limiting communications with our offices and delaying responses to public inquiries. We appreciate your patience and will respond to all requests and inquiries as soon as possible."

the waiting continues...

Just heard from NROTC recruiting officer that MAY 15 is the "Selection Board deadline"...wasn't sure what that meant at first, but after explanation my understanding is that MAY 15 is the date by which ALL decisions - yea or nay - must be made by the NROTC Selection/Placement office. Decisions can be made before that, of course, :shake:...but absolutely no NROTC scholarship applicant will be left hanging after that. and so...the wait continues...

Gosh that sounds late, since most colleges have May 1 acceptance deadlines. Not that I doubt you. It's more a case of 'What are they thinking?'.

I Know!!! It's crazy!!! And that MAY 1 college acceptance deadline was in fact mentioned in the conversation. To that, the answer was, "I'm not sure how the civilian side works, but MAY 15 is the NROTC deadline." On this end of the phone the facial expression was this:confused: - And the thought bubble was "...not sure how the civilian side works??? HOw can that even be???" :frown:

I have been told by my son's processor that the reason it is so late is because students turn down the offers since some receive appointments to other Academies and other ROTC programs. By Having the May 15 deadline it allows board to send out last minute decisions to the wait list per se students that would have been given the no selected decision. Hope this helps. Good luck, for the record my son is still waiting as well.

^^^ That's nice but by then folks have already accepted offers, perhaps to plan B schools. Regardless, there is the issue of the scholarship not matching the school to which you've already sent a deposit. It's not clear to me that they're doing anyone a favor by leaving them in limbo until May 15. Thank goodness we got our 'not selected' letter by April 15 last year.

According the the recruiter I spoke with in our area, they haven't had a selection in their district since January. He inquired and was told that the selection process is a tad bit behind and results weren't even out for the February boards yet. He hoped to see some more selections by the end of last week or this week. He was also told that notifications could go as late as May. I guess no news is better news than not selected, but the waiting game is not for those who lack patience (of which I'm one ).

Looking back through this thread I am seeing a veritable desert, as in no, zero, nada NROTC-Navy option offers reported in two months - February or March, by our Forum Population - that is so curious! And with each passing day, week, month it just gets "curiouser and curiouser!" Well I say, let's all join together now in a good old fashioned Rain Dance - let it rain down offers on this "desert!"

I spoke with my DS's scholarship coordinator yesterday and he said they've had 5 more selections in their district since January. That was for 2 boards thru the early February board. He expects decisions from the late February board to be out next week and the early March board to be out 2 weeks after that. He also said the last board meets 4/26. The May 15th deadline makes sense then. It sounds like 1st choice schools are still be awarded.

Here's hoping (and praying) for good news. The mailbox and website stalking is taking up too much of my time :)!

I just wanted to follow up and verify with what was quoted. My son just received his scholarship notification today from the March board. There is two more boards left and then the notification of the wait-list selectees. Good luck to everyone and congratulations to the students who received their NROTC scholarship.

Method of Decision Communication ?

Does anybody know how the decisions go out ? ie: mail, email, phone, carrier pigeon  I've been checking the NROTC status page for days now, but on another thread of this forum somebody stated that the Naval Academy CIS only reports if all the pieces are in, they don't update when appointments are sent out. I thought the NROTC status page was different ... but starting to worry. For those who received their awards, how did you find out ? Thanx !

My son’s NROTC status changed on-line this morning (4/3/2012). He was offered a four year scholarship to NC State. That was the first noticed we received.

I expect this thread to light up now since 49er stated today it changed.

Congrats 49er, NCST has a great ROTC program!

Congratulations 49er. A fine school just down the road from me. If there is any way I can help while he's there just give a shout. Go Wolfpack!

:jump1: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! That is wonderful news 49er!!! Did your son see the news yet??? I bet there's celebrating breaking out wherever he is!! We are still waiting here...DS is on spring break, with his baseball team playing tournaments in another state right now - I'm the official stalker/watcher/listener to phones ringing for now. If you don't mind me asking - what does your last name begin with? Just trying to decipher the on-line notification process as in do they notify in alphabetical order? Again, regarding YOUR news  and:shake:

I was wondering the exact same thing.

Congrats to 49er, BTW.

:jump1:Congratulations Parish808!!! Looks like the drought is over and it's raining down offers - two so far just this morning!! Good news for the two and maybe more good news throughout the day!!

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear.

Kinnem – Thanks, my sister went to NC State, and it is a great school.

Kar57 – Our last name starts with “M”.

Pima – Thanks and thanks for all of your great post on this forum.

I do not think he will be accepting this offer. Further, I do not think he will he be accepting the appointment to the Coast Guard Academy he received a few weeks ago.

He received an Army three year scholarship to The Citadel back in January. The Citadel and the Army have always been his first choices. He applied to several programs because to him because having the opportunity to serve was the most important thing. I know he has given his options a lot of thought as we just talked about them last night after he received a letter from DODMERB stating he was qualified for Navy ROTC (we knew something was up, that was why I was checking this morning). He plans on serving his four year active duty commitment and then making the decision to transfer to guard or reserves. He feels like there would me more opportunities in the Army Reserves or a Guard unit. While I am sure many would argue Coast Guard Academy over a SMC or Navy over Army, he has done his research and he has come to his own conclusions and decisions. I applaud him for wanting to keep his options open will having a strong desire to serve. We have three friends in our community that are guard/reserve officers he knows well. One is a Colonel in the NC Guard, one is a Colonel in the Army Reserve and one is a Major General in the Army Reserve. These individuals have been a great influence on him and I can not think of anyone else I would like him to follow in their footsteps.

I can not express how proud of him we are!

Again, good luck to everyone else. One thing that I have learned from this forum is that there are a lot of great kids out there that will continue to make us proud of our country no matter what uniform they put on.

I'm still waiting to find out if I got the NROTC scholarship. Turned in everything in October. Does anyone know if the decision notifications could happen after May 1st? Kinda stressed out because I've been accepted to my top 3 colleges and have to decide/ send in admission deposits by that date.

Still reporting no decision here! I turned everything in by October as well so the wait is kind of perplexing. I'd much rather this than a denial though. I've already committed to my first choice (Texas A&M) and fortunately received enough scholarships and aid to get by in case I don't receive the NROTC scholarship. Good luck to everyone still waiting!
