NROTC

My daughter recieved her NROTC and AROTC offers in today's mail. Good news....she was assigned to her first choice NROTC unit. The Navy is looking better!:thumb:

That's great, Aglages!

The snow plow finally came down our street, so we'll be back to stalking the mail lady this afternoon.

Thank you! The snow plow made it down our street yesterday......about half an hour after my son and I finished digging out the driveway. I suppose you can guess where they pushed the snow from the street?

It's a gorgeous 65 degrees in Houston....we'll be hovering over our mailbox too!

Great news, congrats! Even though some of us will have to 'patiently wait' at least another month, it's wonderful seeing all of you get further along in the process. Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you and yours also bdaMom! Hopefully the New Year will bring you good news. :thumb:

worst case scenario

I have a scenario that I would like to run by you. With a NROTC scholarship to Duke in hand. Let say your not accepted into Duke or none of the school on you list of 5 at that point could you transfer the scholarship to a school on the list of NROTC schools but not 1 of your 5. So basically should you apply to more than the 5 just in case and then request a school change. I hope you can make heads or tails from this. Thanks

I can't imagine why not. If you apply to a school that is not on your initial NROTC list (which by-the-way doesn't exist anymore) and are accepted, the worse the Navy can say is no when you try to transfer the scholarship. According to the booklet (pages 7 & 8) if the schools you want the scholarship transferred to are full, you automatically are added to the "wait list" for that unit and are NOT removed you from the unit that you were originally granted a scholarship. You can be "wait listed" at up to three schools simultaneously. Can't see the downside to applying to other schools at this point (other than potential application costs).

Hope I understood your question correctly.

WOHO!

Just received my NROTC offer today for Virgina Tech! I had the pleasure of getting an Air Force one on Saturday. This has been the best Christmas ever! I can reiterate how much help these forums have been to me in the past few years even if I have not made my voice heard too much :biggrin. Now I can relax and wait until the appointments start coming out; hopefully ill be getting one!

Congratulations, Carp28!!! My son's scholarship is to Tech as well. Unfortuantely, our mail lady came but no envelope. Of course, sometimes our mail here can be a little slower than the norm, so we'll resume stalking again tomorrow.

We finally received the yellow envelope yesterday. The snow has really put our mail delivery behind. I'll bet our son has it signed and back in the mail in days. It's great to see him so excited about his future, and we are so proud of the path he has chosen.

Excellent news CronusMom!!! Congrats to you and your son. Have a safe and Happy Holiday.:thumb:

Congratulations- It's really nice to see someone so pleased and excited about something that you have obviously worked so hard to get. Merry Christmas Carp!!

CAUTION: Don't count on wait lists. From my son's experience last year, highly competitive colleges (at least the 2 he was interested in located in Boston and DC) did not open up after he changed preferences late last winter. (He heard good news exactly a year ago; NROTC Marine Option). Fortunately things have worked out great for him at his original 1st choice. Many of his classmates never made it off waitlists after being awarded scholarships to other colleges (Duke included).

Thanks to NROTCDAD55 for the following:

E 11/17
F 12/8
G 1/12/2010
H 1/26
I 2/9
J 3/2

Looks as though the Air Force, Navy and Army scholarship boards are all meeting the first week of December. Should get interesting around here!

OK quick question, maybe someone with experience can help. According to this post and the e-mail from the NROTC recruiter handling my Son's packet which states it was completed electronically and Fedex'd to Pensacola on Dec. 9th, he should have been in front of 3 boards to date. Granted I am not sure of processing time at the NSTC but based on the fact his status page was relatively blank until last week I am not sure he was before any boards previously. Anyway son called the recruiter who has not gotten back to him about if his packed was boarded and how long before a board is complete before notification of award occurs if awarded. Anyone understand what I am asking and have an answer for a parent struggling through the process with his kid? Thanks in advance!!

New updated page

For weeks my daughter's status read: (NROTC)
Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ...
Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected."

Today I looked and it was updated with address, phone, the schools selected, ACT/SAT scores (which read 0...hope that is a mistake.. etc.

Does this mean anything significant? Thanks.

Mine was the same way and changes to that about 1.5 month ago. i dont think it means anything. Sry
