I read here that about 2,600 AROTC scholarships were awarded last year.

Does anyone know how many NROTC scholarships were given? And, if so, how many were Marine option?

TOTAL:

"Marine Corps Recruiting Command surpassed its recruiting goals for fiscal year 2010 by enlisting 33,887 Marines and accessing 1,703 officers."

NAVAL ACADEMY: http://www.washingtonpost.com

"More than a quarter of this year's U.S. Naval Academy graduates will be commissioned as officers in the Marine Corps (273)"

NAVY OCS: http://www.navy.mil
Officials predict the number leveling off to just below 1,100 for the next five years.

Rough Math, 1,703 annual Marine ascensions.

Assuming about 30% go Marines from USNA and OCS;
273 from USNA,
300 from OCS
Most of the rest +/- 1,100 are going to be coming out of ROTC

I've taken a look at a few NROTC Units from their own websites. It looks like between 20% - 25% of the mids in NROTC are Marine Option (which includes MECEP -- the mid-career commissioning program).

So, that would be around 275 NROTC mids/Marines will commission as Marines officers, a number almost exactly the same as will come out of Annapolis.

More on NROTC: http://www.navy.mil/ (2009)
"According to Sharpe, 2,825 scholarships were offered this year and NSTC officials said more than 1,250 were accepted. Navy nurse degree scholarships were offered to 208 candidates with more than 120 accepted. The entire enrollment in NROTC units nationwide this year is expected to increase by 17 percent. A total of 22,000 applications were started and of those 5,450 met all requirements and ultimately went before the scholarship board."

"We have awarded 85 percent of the scholarships with the understanding that the students would pursue a technical major," Sharpe said."

I should learn to keep quiet, PLC is a new concept to me, and the largest source of marine officers..

(don't hold your breath though)

gojack - do a search on PLC. IRRC, tpg started a very informative thread on how the program works.

Just_A_Mom, thanks, but in the future I will try to refrain from commenting on anything except Army
