Good luck to the Cadets aboard the TS "Empire State" who left Ft Schuyler 10 days ago for their Summer Sea Term. Right about now New Orleans is experiencing an influx of Cadets. Other ports will be St Johns NewFoundland, Dublin as well as Malta and Italy. If you want to follow the voyage- the blog is here: http://lucelibrary.blogspot.com/

Fair winds and following seas to all aboard!

The TS Empire State VI is in Malta now having left Trieste a couple of days ago. If you are interested - pictures of the voyage can be found here: http://lucelibrary.blogspot.com/

There must be a lot worse ways to spend your college summers than travelling from NYC to New Orleans to St Johns NL, Dublin, Gibraltar, Trieste Italy, Malta etc... while you learn your profession :thumb:

Meanwhile on the "Left Coast"- Cal Maritime's ship TS Golden Bear should now be home after a training cruise that went from Vallejo to Honolulu, Lahaina, Cabo San Lucas, Seattle and Portland. https://www.csum.edu/web/admissions/visit-the-t.s.-golden-bear-in-your-city

My company hires a number of summer interns for engineering positions- in which we help them gain experience in manufacturing engineering operations and projects. The Maritime Academy training cruises combined with the commercial sailing experience which all of them require for a summer, are also internships which are required for a license, and which provide practical hands-on, real world experience in engineering and maintenance of Steam and Diesel power plants, seamanship and leadership. Sounds like a great experience to me and a heck of a lot more interesting than a factory in Massachusetts! Maybe tha tis why the State Maritimes are all among the top ranked colleges for post graduation employment rates and salary and "return on investment".

SUNY Maritime had a summer open house last week. Our son and I participated and learned a great deal about their programs. We'll see what the future brings but both he and I were very impressed.

I was on when they went to Dublin in '06. Had a blast in Temple Bar and I've always wanted to go back.
