NY Nominations

Senator Schumer's nomination showed up on my portal this morning. I have received all my nominations! Hoping for an appointment soon.

We all have it on the portal now, which is of course a good sign. Now I'm guessing we'll receive a letter this coming week from his office confirming this.
 
My son had two NY-61 Schumer noms appear on his portal when he checked last night. I wonder if it's a mistake or if the Senator had two spots open to the USMA this year and he made both slates?
In either case, since he received his BFE under Nita Lowey NY17 earlier this week, we'll notify the Senator's office to see if they can re-issue them to another deserving young person. Good luck to you all- the odds of getting the Schumer spot(s) probably just got a little better!
 
My son received Schumer's nom in the mail today though he had a nom already to USMMA. I called in the beginning of January to let them know so they could give it to someone else. They told me they took him off their list yet he got one anyway. Weird.. Congratulations Everyone!

DS had the same experience with Schumer and USNA. Got MOC nom and told Schumer. Said they'd take him off list then nom showed up in portal and by mail. Slow year for apps, maybe?

That's what I was thinking also.. When I called I had requested to request his second choice of USNA nomination and they said the nom could only be for the first choice... Then why do they ask if you have a second choice?

I think it depends on a few things.

Were the noms already out? If so switching isn't that simple. They may have forwarded those names to the SAs already. The slates may have been full, you can't really take a nom off of one candidate to give it to someone else who wants to spread their cards on different tables.

The way it was explained to us was this way. Candidates are given a score when they interview for their nom. They put the top 10 for each SA in for the noms. Your DS or DD may be in the top 10 for one SA but not another as some kids don't apply to multiple. Consideration is given to your top choice in such if you were top 10 in more than one you would get your #1 pick.

It would be possible for someone to be #10 on there bottom pick with one nomination source and higher with another. It's all about how the panel felt.

Some kids apply to all or multiple SAs, some only one. It's a gamble either way. If you apply to all and your dream is USNA and only get noms for USMA, then that's where you are. If you only apply for one you risk not getting a nom where you may have on another slate.

Bottom line, they can only put 10 names on a slate.

Did DS get accepted? What town are you in? School district? We are in Middletown Pine Bush school District.

He is still waiting to hear- has a waiver pending. We are from NYC but he attends prep school in MA.
 
Did anyone get their nominations from Charlie Rangel? (NY-13). This area includes Harlem and some of Bronx. I'm an applicant for 2021 I want to hear the experiences from anyone that came from New York City and went to any of the academies.
