Offer extended -- timeline

lovethenavy - LOL! I can just imagine the excitement and then the horror! I'm so glad your senator has an accommodating secretary! Congrats to your son! :thumb:

The waiting never ends!

You have only just begun to wait. Waiting for I-Day. Then waiting for that first phone call from plebe summer. Waiting til the end of each day to check the photos on the web of what plebe is doing daily. Then the second call. Then PPW. Then Thanksgiving and Christmas......................you get the picture. We (plebe son and parents) are now awaiting Sea Trials and Herndon.

Today, daughter got a letter saying she is guaranteed an appointment if she finishes her medical stuff. (Waiver granted 17 Feb). They sent a copy of that to Rep Edwards, Sen Hutchison and Sen Cornyn.

Seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. But, we are encouraged! We have something in writing!

The same thing happened to my son last year, the Blue Folder arrived the following week.

Congrats!!! This is just the beginning, as Jennyp points out :) 86 days, 16 hours until Herndon, woohoo!

DoDMERB status changed 2/16. MOC letter arrived Wednesday, USNA paperwork arrived last night. Everything has been sitting on the kitchen counter, up and away from the dog. Son has been very quiet for about 2 weeks.

This morning he came downstairs, found a pen, signed his acceptance, and ate pancakes.

Good day...

congrats to singapore mom! Now to all of you who are receiving the good news...when do we start to make reservations? Pachrian has given me some good ideas....any other thoughts on places to stay, etc. We are from South Dakota and have only been to the Academy once. Still now blue folder in the mail, but the press release from our MOC has gone out.

For I Day I have a couple of rooms at the Loews booked (84.00 a night) - booked through hotwire.

I have used hotwire four times and have found that the 4-star hotels are either the Westin or the Loews. Westin has a pool/ Loews does not.

If you're a walker - either of these hotels is within walking distance so you can park your car and walk to town/the academy weather permitting.

Hope this helps!

we booked flights and hotel this week....once son sent in the paperwork.

We are flying in really late the 29th to BWI and staying at airport hotel (using points)...heading to the Marriott Waterfront for the 30th(no points ). After I-day is over, however late that is, we'll drive to Reagan National airport hotel (points again) since we have a 7am flight the morning of the 2nd. I think we'll be happier arriving late on the 29th since it will give us room for error.

Haven't thought about PPW yet.

With the deposit we need to make that day to USNA, figured I'd use our points/miles to ease the burden.

I read somewhere that you're no longer required to make the big deposit on I Day, but that the funds are taken out of the plebe's account instead. I'm really hoping that's the case! Can a current plebe or parent let us know if that's correct?

Class of 2012 was the first class NOT required to make a deposit on I-day. Instead, the ~$2500 additional cost was lumped into the loan agreement that Plebes sign as part of their I-day paperwork. It all gets paid back out of the Mid's salary over time.
