I was offered a 2 year MJC scholarship in the first board. The due date for the scholarship is in 8 days and I am very much on the fence about accepting the scholarship or deciding to compete in the 2nd and 3rd boards for a 3 or 4 year scholarship. Did I only receive an offer due to a low amount of applicants?

As discussed with me from a ROO, you received the offer based upon the strength of your application.

I totally agree with Dckc88 though, if it's not the right fit, do not accept it.
But be prepared to not receive another scholarship offer (that is not definite) even though you are put back in the pool. You might end up having to show up at your school and compete for a campus based scholarship.

It really boils down to this - Can you afford to send him to school without a scholarship? If yes, then does he know 100% that he wants to be a reserve officer? If he can't say that, turn down the Ike and don't look back.

If you can't afford to send him to school without it, and he doesn't want to be a reserve officer, you'll need to wait through the 2nd and maybe 3rd boards to see if he gets an offer.

If he does, he's golden. If not, there are other ways to realize his goal - enlisting, SMP program, etc. Accepting the Ike closes all of the other doors, and leaves him with one option - ECP and a reserve commission. If he's happy with that outcome and can let go of the other options, then accept it. If not, don't. - Jcc123

I started a thread about the Ike Skelton a couple of days ago, and this was some of the best advice my DS got (emphasis mine). He decided to roll the dice on the next two boards, since he's not willing to let go of the possibility of a 4 year.. He's also been in contact with the ROO at the school he really wants (and has been accepted to) , Michigan Tech, and knows what he has to work on (his PFA).

Just a waiting game, now.
