scholarships received

Congrats to all,

I know how hard you all have worked to achieve this! Best of luck on your new adventure.

I'm curious as to how many ROTC 4 yr scholarships will be given out this year across the nation. I've looked for statistics but can seem to come up with any.

Any ideas?

So far it looks like even though there are a few more 3 year AROTC Scholarships then previous years, the majority of the AROTC Scholarships listed on this board so far are 4 year.

It looks as though there are many more state universities mentioned vs. private higher, cost colleges/universities, which I am sure is to save money and/or allow more students to attend on scholarships. I'm interested in knowing if most of you who got the scholarships to state universities were for your own home states or OOS? Also, is there ever a full list that Cadet Command publicly publishes that shows the breakdown of the total number of scholarships, whether they are 3 or 4 year, and to which schools? If not, will most ROOs tell you the number of applicants they had for national scholarships and the number that were awarded? I would think this would be very important information for applicants to know before they choose their schools.

I can only answer a few of your points, but something's better than nothing right? I'm #19 in the list and UC Davis is indeed a state university in my home state of California. When I applied for the scholarship, I only listed schools in California with the exception of one or two because 1. They formed the majority of schools I applied to, 2. They also happened to be the ones I felt I was most likely going to be admitted to. Obviously not perfect reasoning, but I'm happy with the outcome.

As to your other questions, I'll leave them to those wiser than I.

DS received a 4yr to Rutgers (NJ state school), 3yr to Citadel, Penn State, and VMI. We are from NJ and his 4yr was to a state school.

# of scholarships

Thanks for that link. My DS accepted a 4 yr scholarship in the AROTC. I'm sure the numbers are similar for them as well. He accepted to LSU which is our home state.

This is a tricky situation because LA offers a tuition scholarship based on merit to citizens of LA. He qualified for the top level which is tuition + $400.00 a semester. So his tuition is already covered by the state program. We are hoping that the ROTC will cover room and board and all other fees (which you know can add up).

I've read that LSU offers room and board to ROTC scholarship winners, but not quite sure if this will continue. He goes to spring orientation in April where we will meet with the military science dept. and ROO. We will get our info at that time. Hope so..

35. JJawsFoss - (DS) - 4 Year Type 2 AFROTC, 3/14/13

Army ROTC 4-year, full scholarship, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

DS had his AFROTC Portal updated this morning: "Congratulations! You were awarded a 4 Year Type 2 scholarship." Very exciting!

It did not mention a particular school though. How do we find that out? It looks like most postings of awards here are to particular schools.

Our DS intentionally applied to in-state schools where he already had full merit packages. As it turns out, ROTC will pick up tuition, and Alabama will apply his merit package to room & board. We knew this going in and made the school choices so that if he got an ROTC scholarship, everything would be covered. We just don't believe in debt.

It's mind blowing that kids come out out college these days with debt larger than our mortgage. How do they ever catch up?

Congratulations! I know you are thrilled. Here is info from the AF ROTC web page. Basically he can go anywhere accepted, that has AF ROTC, and meets this criteria:

Type 2 – Pays college tuition and most fees up to $18,000 and $900 per year for books. Approximately 15% of our four-year scholarship winners will be offered a Type-2 scholarship (mostly in technical fields). If a student attends an institution where the tuition exceeds $18,000 per year, then he/she pays the difference. All three-year scholarships are Type 2.
