I submitted my preliminary application online to the Academy about two weeks ago and I still have not received anything in the mail notifying me of my official candidacy! Is it too early to start worrying? How long does this usually take?

    Help!

Oh Julia you have so much waiting ahead of you! I believe I got mine late May/early June last year. Just some advice: try not to think about it every day or you won't enjoy your senior year:) and if offered a CVW, TAKE IT by all means!!! Most importantly good luck!

I am thinking the academy staff will be fully occupied getting the incoming class processed and thus you are not likely to hear anything of substance until much later in the summer. That said, being early on the deadlines is always a good place to be! Good luck!

    Julia,

Did you read the steps for admission on USNA's Admission website? Step 3 answers this question.

I know summer session people are automatically
considered active candidates, but what about CVW attendees from the spring?

Baseball dad, this year I filled out my pre app, didn't get in to NASS, went a spring CVW and was notified last week by my BGO that I am now an official candidate if that helps

I haven't heard of my official candidacy either. I was accepted to NASS and declined back in February. When should except to hear something from the academy?

Dd was accepted to the 3rd session for nass and has not received any official notification nor has she even heard from a B&G officer. Shouldn't' she have had some kind of contact with a BGO by now?

For the most part, most BGOs might not be aware of who their candidates are because the system has not been updated. However, if I was your DD, I would take some initiative and find out who the BGO is through the H.S. guidance office and/or calling/emailing admissions.

A good point to bring up now -- not specifically connected to the question asked above...

Candidates, in general, the USNA application is YOURS! It isn't your BGOs, it isn't your parents, etc. YOU are responsible for getting it done. If you want to show your dedication, then you have to take the initiative. DO NOT rely on others to do so on your behalf.

Son attended NASS session 1. The first day they had an admissions brief and were given a Candidate Information Packet. Included in the packet was their USNA Admissions point of contact, and the username and password for the application. I'm sure an official CIP will be arriving via snail mail soon.

You're making me jealous  It'd be nice to get my packet before I graduate on the 12th.

DD received her official candidate letter today in CA. Yesterday, her dad and I were able to meet many new plebes-to-be for the Welcome Aboard Luncheon in So CA. The class of 2018 has a great group of future mids!

Just got mine yesterday in OH. It was a nice surprise to come home to after a long day at work and practice! I guess my journey officially begins!

I cannot over-stress the importance of completing your app early. The Class of 2018 had some admission issues and there may have been a priority app date of 1 Oct. I suggest you all read through the still in the game and principal nominee threads to get an idea of what the process can look like. Great luck to you all!

    TWE.

As per admissions, they're being sent out in batches.
