Official EA Mail Stalkers Unite Thread!

Thanks...

So.. When I dropped Joyce off at the CGA last July.. I was really concerned how I would survive the whole thing.. but I did okay... well let me elaborate..

We flew into Providence a couple days early, we spent some quality time goofing off just her and I driving all over New England and just being together.. it was something that I knew I would need..

On Thursday the 29th we showed up bright and early to the CGA..
I was a little shaky... Luckily I met a member from the SAF (MDDAD) and we all walked to Chase hall together, chatting with them was the distraction my heart needed. I got a picture of her on the stairs before we entered.. we walked into to Chase hall ... got a little hug and she said goodbye and was gone..................... I was mortified........and so proud at the same time.. Then bursting with pride it was time to go to the CGX and spend WAYYYYY to much money... :)shake:) (they plan it that way)... Then later in the day we got to see them one more time marching and such and taking their oath.. WOW.. rollercoaster for sure...

Then 4.3 minutes for a few hugs and goodbyes... then she was gone... ohh my.. I was okay, proud of myself.. Then I drove out the gates balling my eyes out.. now just 45 minutes to get to Providence haha.. couldnt call my hubby, cause he would make me cry.. so I called Shellz and PMLutton, then my son.... finally to the hotel, then to the bar!!!

I ordered 2 doubles shots of Southern Comfort.................................... LOL Then I went to bed! The next day I was on the plane.. I was okay, but a bit lonely..... :)

Joyce will be home for Christmas on Friday... Cant wait to see her again....

Long time reader, not much of a poster but wanted to let folks know the fat packages are indeed in the mail!

Son just called from home, seems we'll be going up north in June!!! I'm at my office 25 miles from home and he was so happy, I don't think he really needed the phone to tell me. As far as the noise coming from this part of the county; I can tell you Ft Bragg is not shelling today as I'm here looking over it right now. It's just him jumping up and down and yelling!!!

Hopefully, he'll follow his namesakes long CG career.

WONDERFUL NEWS SAND! CONGRATULATIONS. Nothing in today's mail for us, but we are hopeful. We are so happy for you. Send us good vibes in Texas. -officer

Priceless post. Thank you, and tell Joyce we are proud of her and counting on her to be one of the leaders for 2014 since she has all this great experience now. -officer

nothing here!

still waiting here in Chicago...
its superbly nerve wracking!
i have midterms this week, but only two so they really aren't keeping my mind of the mail too well....
and it doesn't help that there is another kid I know who has applied and hasn't heard anything either...
He is just making me more anxious!
:yllol:

Congratulations to those receiving the large envelope.
The roller coaster is boarding and ready to roll on June 28th. What an exciting ride it is!
There are a few of us 'veteran' parents out here to help you through this transition.
Seems like just yesterday we were watching our oldest cross that stage and packing the car to head to their first duty station. Didn't get any easier to say goodbye, but knowing that they're having the experience of a lifetime makes everything worthwhile.
If you ever have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to ask!

Welcome to the Long Blue Line!

Semper Gumby!

PS: Sorry for so many edits! Oldest just called from HI, haven't heard a word in close to 2 weeks...not seen her since June! Got a bit distracted.

Gosh, I'm so glad you posted about the small envelope. If I didn't know that, I probably would have assumed it was a deferral the minute I saw it, and I would have been so bummed handing it to my son. BIG CONGRATS TO YOU!

Thanks!!!!.....I was worrried when I saw the small enelope too.....Good Luck to everyone still waiting!!!!

Congrats to the latest big (and small!) envelopes! Maybe conditional loa's come in small envelopes? I know already my son's will be conditional. Nothing yet though!

It came today!! The BIG envelope with the cool picture on the front of the Eagle. I guess we will be making travel arrangements in June! To those still waiting...I assure you, it is soooo worth the wait! I think I floated to the gym to give it to my son.:bounce1:

D got deferral letter today. After many tears she came back swinging and said she wanted to redo SAT to try and improve math score. What she needs to know is how is SAT part weighted by admissions? Her SAT scores were at or above median for last years class. Also, does an interview help alot? She tried for an interview but admissions said there was no person in our area to do this. We would fly her to CGA for interview if needed. She was at AIM. She is in AFJROTC. She is the top 15% of her high school class at a competitive high school. She has LOA for MMA and has been told by AFA that she is competitive. Bottom line we want to help her as much as possible. Anybody have advice?

Thanks

Congrats to all who have heard so far...you have reached a great milestone, but just the beginning of a long and arduous journey.

To those with deferral letters, I say, don't lose hope. My own son got one of those despite being a very strong candidate...he eventually got the big envelope, in late March of his senior year. And just graduated last May.

My advice is definitely retake the SAT's if you feel you can improve your score. They are important but only a part of the overall picture. The interviews are also important...might I ask what part of the country you are in? I am surprised there are no AAP's in the area. I'm not sure flying her into New London is necessary, however. As an AAP I would be willing to conduct a phone interview if you would like.

As far as improving your chances of admission, remember your file is "open," so any new accomplishment or award should be reported to your admissions officer going forward.

Keep working hard in school and in your outside activities. Many appointments come from the deferral list so don't be discouraged!:thumb:

I got my loa today, im really excited. I didn't know that conditional loa's came in a small envelope so I was nervous at first but got a pleasant surprise

Ha ha congrats! We are still waiting in TX we did get a big white enevelope and it was from Norwich University as my daughter was accepted into Corps Of Cadets and the Nursing program...but we are hoping for the Academy!!!

P.S I traded the shelling in Ft Bragg for the Concrete Quarry Blast in TX lol!

The ol' Boss (as usual) makes a great point about deferrals, especially this year.

Last year (c/o 2013) 235 Early Action appointments were awarded, while 176 were sent out for Regular Admissions.

This year (c/o 2014) the plan is for less than 170 during EA! And that is from a list of close to 1,000 Early Action candidates!

Which means that there will probably be close to 240 awarded during the RA cycle in order to yield a class size of around 290.

Don't dwell on the negatives of a deferral letter too long, look at it as another chance to impress the CCEB with higher SAT/ACT scores, another varsity letter, another merit award, another presidency of x club, or a face-to-face interview.

Whitege, your daughter sounds like a great candidate. Listen to Boss, they are appointing more "futures" during RA this year than last year. Also remind her that receiving a AFROTC scholarship and MMA LOA is such a great accomplishment and she should commend herself for being on the right track. Hang tough, okay. -officer

Thanks officer! I will keep my fingers crossed that good news is traveling your way soon.

Whiteage- Those are great accomplishments(LOA MMA and being deemed comp for AF) that put your daughter in an elite group of young people across the nation. Dont forget that a large number of appointments come from RA. In the end, on reporting in day, it wont make a difference which month that the appointment came
