Official Naval Academy LOA Thread Class of 2016

Thank you Memphis for your post. My son has been feeling very much like thecadet as he reads the LOA stats coming in. I think it is good they are posting the stats because lets face it... we do want to know and compare BUT i have been telling my son to not obsess about it all. Look at the big picture- the LOA tend to go to the "no-brainer" candidates and they are probably the top 25% of the applicants. Not the majority.

I recommend not even following the LOA threads in the forum. It's like a young girl looking at some beautiful actress on the cover of a glamour magazine and wondering why she can't have such perfect skin and figure? It can be needlessly depressing and counterproductive to one's efforts.

LOAs can go out anytime although they do taper off later in the year. My DS recieved his LOA in December of last year after taking the ACT in October. He had good SAT scores but figured he give the ACT a try. I think his scores must have put him over the top. So it pays to keep updating your file and working on the things you can improve on.

Congratulations, William. You've got an impressive profile, and clearly deserve this.

I hope applicants who are turned down for NASS will read your post. It's discouraging to hear a NASS 'no' before the USNA application's even begun, but as you've shown, the two aren't necessarily related.

Thanks! I was thinking about posting a thread directed at other candidates who weren't offered a spot at NASS, if maybe that would be something that would be meaningful for other candidates. I have a lot of friends who never completed their applications, I think partly because they were discouraged by a Summer Seminar "no"

I got an LOA last week. NJ 12th district. As great as it is to know that Annapolis has technically already accepted me. It's time to get a senator or MOC that accepts me too. Otherwise the LOA doesn't really mean much without the appointment.

So true! Our son was very disappointed and discouraged after being turned down for NASS. But that initial rejection made him even more determined to put together the very best application package possible. He went on to receive an appointment, and last summer he finally got to go to NASS - as a Squad Leader! :thumb:

LOA today

SC

Congrats, Navy2016! While everyone repeatedly and correctly points out that the goal is an appointment, it really takes some pressure off, as my DS knows well. Good luck with any remaining hurdles! :thumb:

PS What Congressional District in SC?
