Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

mom in fl: I believe that LOAs and appointments for this year so far were offered to recruited athletes only because USAFA does not want to offer them appointments later on and lose the recruited athletes to other schools that they might also apply to. Therefore, recruited athletes are the only ones that are notified of their appointments whilst the rest of us will find out in March. Such a long wait, though! Hopefully, the time will fly!

I've heard sponsored preps will be the last to find out. Our advisor said we may not know until as late as mid-April...

Interesting. Last year the Falcon appointments came out right after the appointments with principal nominations at the end of February. But this isn't last year. . .

USAFA: 2016, I was under the impression that sponsered preps have already received if not an acceptance letter, at least an "LOA" type of letter guaranteeing their admissions if they continued to maintain their grades and athletics.

They have but I think the Falcon's are just as anxious as everyone else to get the BFE.

I got in touch with Mrs. D - she confirms that Falcons won't hear till early/mid April in regards to the appointments.

But aren't they guaranteed an appointment after a year at prep just like the cadet candidates at USAFAPS?

No, we're not. Our contract says that everyone who successfully completes their prep school year (retakes all SAT/ACT's, nothing below a C in any classes, get a nom, etc.) then we have a 98% chance. So, in theory, we could get good grades, take our tests, get a nom, and still not get in. Considering the class of 2016 will be so small, several of us are worried and anxious. April is a long ways away... :frown:

That's not the way we are looking at it all. I think as long as you meet the terms of the scholarship, the appointment is yours. AFA Admissions knew what the 2016 class size was when they offered the scholarships last Spring so I don't see that being a factor. I would be surprised if you have anything to worry about.

Perhaps that is exactly the reason you all received LOAs this year - to give you some assurance during the long wait. And April as well as June 28 will be here before you know it.

I agree. Just keep doing what got you here in the first place and finish up this semester strong.

Principal nomination

Just notified DS received principal nomination from Senator, now waiting for appointment. It has been a long 18 months for him; last year wait-listed getting TWE in June. We are not a military family and had limited knowledge about application process to academy but DS determined to serve his country and persevered. We spent a lot of time over the last 18 months perusing these forums and many of the posts were very helpful. Just want to thank everyone for their help.

^^^Congrats on DS's principal nomination! Sending good thoughts and positive vibes for an appointment for him =)

Congratulations to your son!!! :groupwave:
(what a relief huh?)

Principal nomination

Thanks for your good thoughts. Yes, a total relief for me. DS still afraid to count on anything and I think he is haunting mailbox at college (though my understanding from reading the forum is he is unlikely to receive BFE til March, assuming he does get an appointment).

Best wishes to everyone else applying!

I have just been informed by my congressman that I have been appointed to the academy! I'm so excited! I'm not a recruited athlete but I did have a principal nomination. I'm so glad I did not have to wait until March to find out!

ALL RIGHT! Congrats and we'll done. Wow, is it possible that the first wave of principal nomination appointments has begun? It is not even close to March. . .

Thank you all so much!

I sincerely hope so. I'm in the phase when I'm in utter disbelief and honestly questioning whether it's possible and if I even heard correctly on the phone. I was told I'd receive the official packet in the mail next week so I know that will settle my fears.

Let us know when you get your BFE next week by posting on the appointment list that is back a few pages on this thread.
