So I've been really anxious about this whole process. It got out to my classmates and teachers that I'm applying to USNA a couple months ago, and now people are constantly asking me about the process and trying to assure me that I'll get in. That being said, I'm wondering how many appointments have gone out to Ohio candidates. I have two nominations- one from Sen. Portman and one from my Congressman. Anyone have any info?

On Friday at Portman's reception, a staffer told me nobody has an appointment yet out of Portman's group. I feel the same way you do - except I'm hoping for USAFA.

One from Brown's nomination has an appointment had LOA since September - however Brown still has one more slot this year. We haven't seen an appointment from Congressman nomination yet.

No word yet. I have a presidential nomination and a nomination from Congressman Stivers. I'm rather surprised that you received a nomination from both your congressman and Portman; I received a letter from Portman stating that because I received one from my congressman, I would not receive one from him.

Remember the other 9 on the slate still compete for an appointment nationally so hang in there. DD had two NOMS. Both slates had candidates with LOA's. She got in. In theory all ten can get in.

Have you checked out Nomination Forums as there is some information regarding nominations from Ohio. I think it is on page 2 or 3, but use the search function to fins it quicker.

DS just received an appointment to USNA. Received call from Senator Portman on Friday afternoon, and email from USNA on Tuesday.

My nomination from Portman came through first (Dec . 17). I didn't hear from my Congressman until Dec. 26. I did get a letter from Sen. Brown saying they would not be offering me a nom because I got one from Sen. Portman.

Just curious: Since Senator Brown nominated a total of 20 candidates to USNA this year, are those submitted in two separate slates of ten for each of the open slots rather than a single slate?

He must of had two openings this year. Remember they can have five attending each academy at a given time. Since it is a four year program, they will have two ever few year (drops out/withdrawals will create additional spots too). They can nominate up to ten per opening. So YES is the answer to your question. He must of had two openings and submitted 2 slates with ten each. In theory all 20 could get appointments. One for each slate charged to the Senators "account" and eighteen out of the national pool. Good luck.

    First congrats on the appointment.
Second, you have no idea who the Academy will charge your appointment. Please do not burst the bubble of others who may have a nomination from the Senator also. Just because Portman called does not mean that your appointment will be charged to him.
