My son has not received anything from Senators Brown or Portman. He only has received a letter from Brad Wenstrup. Hope to hear something soon.

I am a mid mom from CA, but am following this forum due to the fact that my niece who lives in OH (Cleveland area) is applying to USNA and USMA. She got a nom from her Congressman and the same letter from Portman. They have not heard from Brown, but based on what was stated in Portman's letter, she is assuming a nom is coming from Brown. Does anyone know if the Senators coordinate with the Congressman, or only cross check with the other Senator so that they Senators do not duplicate noms?

Brown and Portman do indeed coordinate. Brown coordinates with MOC's to the degree (that I'm personally aware of) that DS received letter from Brown that said "My office has been informed that you have an Offer of Assurance from USNA and a nomination from your MOC (OH-14). As a result, an additional nomination from my office would not be necessary or helpful to you".

Also, to other PO, Brown and Portman submit competitive slates, not principal .

Thanks Sydney! So is it your understanding that just Portman and Brown coordinate? I can't imagine them contacting all districts in Ohio (I am not certain, but I know it is 20+) to coordinate with them as well. In addition, I know that not all Congressman have handed out their noms yet, so if she received Portman's letter stating she did not get a nom from him because they are aware of another nom, can she safely assume she will be getting a nom from Brown?

Of course with the exception of an LOA, I would imagine the Senators do not coordinate with the Congressmen??

I agree with your premise on the 20+ MOC's but can't make that conclusion at 100% but I simply don't know. Perhaps Portman also knows about an MOC nom for her that she is not aware of yet and in the absence of that seems perfectly logical that it would come from Brown...and soon. In either event, it's good news but like everything else in the process, don't go popping those corks on the bubbly until she gets it.

We are in District 1. Son received nom from MOC, and a letter today from Senator Portman that he is not getting a nomination from him because they are aware of another nomination. I assumed it was because of the MOC nom, but we have not heard anything from Senator Brown.

I also maybe incorrectly assumed that since I saw where someone on here had already received a nomination from Senator Brown that maybe they weren't sending rejection letters out until after Christmas. Seems weird that only one person on here has heard from Senator Brown, and no one else has, but this is our first time going through this and we started the game a little late, so I don't know much about how it all works!

DD got a nomination from her MOC (OH -7) back in November.
She received a letter from Brown last week (no nomination because of MOC)
She received a letter from Portman yesterday (no nomination because of MOC)
She did have a LOA so she only needed 1 nomination and both of the Senator's letters referenced this fact.
So I would assume that there is at least some level of coordination between Ohio's senators & MOC offices.

Still no word from Senator Brown here either. The Senator Portman letter said no nomination due to a nomination from another MOC. Does that mean the one DS received from the Representative, or does it mean he could be getting one from Senator Brown? Anxiously waiting.

He received a nomination from Senator Brown and a nomination from his district MOC to both USNA & USMA. His letter from Senator Portman stated he would not be receiving a nomination from him since they coordinate with Senator Brown to ensure the greatest number of Ohio candidates receive nominations and they are aware he is nominated by Senator Brown. Senator Brown's panel asked him current events questions which he felt somewhat unprepared for due to how busy he had been with football. He must have done better than he thought. Also Senator Brown and Senator Portman do not rank their slates so the academy picks the best qualified candidate.

Mail can be slower during the holidays. I hope good news is on the way!!!

    Brown Nothing Yet

Have not received anything from Brown yet. Portman's letter said you have received a nomination from MOC does that infer one is coming from Brown? Another poster said,"NO." But in your case that demoes not seem to be what happened.:bang:

    MOC coordination

I think the MOC's do coordinate nominations in some states. I don't think it is required though.

Received rejection letter from Senator Brown today. Still have a MOC nomination and presidential so all is not lost. I can't imagine how disappointing it would be to get this far and not receive a nomination at all. I hope no one is going through that. Good luck to everyone else. I guess we hurry up and wait some more now!

Hi nukepharm! Do you mind me asking what part of Ohio you are from? My niece lives near Cleveland and still did not get anything in the mail yet. And you are right about all not being lost! It only takes one nom for a potential appt. Three years ago, my son had only one nom and get the appt, while a friend of his had two noms and did not get an appt (and both seemed to be equally qualified). Best wishes to you in the upcoming months! May 2015 bring you good news! :thumb:

"All is not lost"? Help me out with this. You have a MOC nom but Brown sent a rejection letter...and...what's the problem? DS has MOC nom and letters from Brown and Portman that say, to paraphrase, "we checked, you have an "Offer of Admission" nom from MOC and " a nom from us won't be either useful or helpful to you so you you're not getting one".

(DS was appointed last year but last minute medical DQ put him in a new USNA program for 2019... I won't bore you with details).

You have a nom, two noms if I read it correctly...congrats...and nothing is lost unless I'm missing something here.

My DS received a nomination to the USMA from Senator Portman, dated 12/17. Subsequently, he received a letter (12/23) from Senator Brown stating that he had coordinated with Portman's office and he would not receive another nomination. DS did receive a letter from our MOC (OH4), dated 12/19, nominating him to all 4 academies. Our Congressman's office interviewed late in the process on 12/6. Only 15 were interviewed, but the panel was extreme. Jim Jordan wanted a representative from every county in the district, which meant 14 on the panel. Contrast that with 237 interviewed by Senator Brown's panel; and a comparable number by Portman's panel.

We received a letter (12/22) from Senator Portman inviting us to a reception for all his academy nominees.

BTW, there are 16 Congressional districts in Ohio, plus the senators.

My son is not the one that had the "Offer of Admission" that was another poster. You are correct he has two nominating sources, MOC and Presidential, which we are very excited about, but no appointment. This has been a roller coaster ride for sure, and after the MOC event the other night, we were feeling pretty discouraged about his chances. There were at least 2that already had LOA's for the academy and all of the kids seemed to have terrific qualifications.

We have not lost hope, but realistically feel we have to be prepared and ready with a good plan B. He really wants in, and will be trying again next year if it doesn't happen this year. We started the whole process a little late.

Congrats to your son. I can't imagine how hard it would be to be medically disqualified at the last minute. Talk about a roller coaster ride! Did he go to another college for the year?

Also CAmidparent, I sent you a PM
