OML Released

Dunninla,

Great info again.

What you posted aligns pretty well with how branching went at my son's battalion last year.

I just hope my younger son makes his mind up a little quicker then his older brother did, that was a stressful 3 months, every one of his buddies were making plans for their new branch while he just sat waiting, that's what you get for changing your mind.

it appears your son wanted to two very toughest Branches to get out of ROTC.

And he took about the hardest route there was to get there, it was an adventure to say the least.

I read on the US Army ROTC FB page that the AD cutoff is 76.00. Is the cutoff already established? I thought they would have to wait to see the # of cadets opting for guard/reserves. How does that work?

I noticed the same thing on the facebook page, it was a comment made by a cadet.

I would wait until the official word comes from your cadets battalion. Last year there were all different numbers thrown around on facebook the first couple days, most of them wrong.

They take into account the reserves before they release the OML, there has been some movement after the OML is released in the past but not a huge swing from what is first posted. There are sometimes a few cadets that make the swith to reserves, but not a lot.

We just found out our results this morning, and I got AD. We had a guy make it with a 75.something, so it seems the cutoff of 76.00 isn't accurate.

What a difference a year makes...My son has OMS of 94.8 & is in the top 11% of AD OML. One of his roommates (green-to-gold) graduated last May w/OMS score of 91 which put him in the top 10%. One of his friends graduating in Dec scored approx 74.xx & did not receive AD.

Last year there were 3100+- cadets on the AD List. It will be interesting to see how many are on that list this year. As the number gets smaller the top 10% will get smaller as well.

Interesting, last year my son's OMS was 93.7, he ended up being the second to last in the 10% range, how did the GtoG cadet get top 10% with a 91.

Your son should be fine, he should get his #1 choice, not a guarantee but a pretty safe bet, he may need to ADSO if he wants Italy though.

Congratulations to your son, Great Job.

EDIT: Sorry, I just realized, that 91 OMS score probably put him in the top 10% of the National OML, before being placed on the AD OML.

He says he really isn't that interested in Italy. His former LtC was pushing him toward Italy when he talked to him in May. Son says he prefers to be stationed stateside with an airborne battalion. We'll just have to wait & see what is in store for him. Now, awaiting final branching next month...sigh.

I think you're correct about GtoG cadet being top 10% on national OML. He branched MI w/an infantry branch detail.

Congrats on his great score.

My DS told me last month he spent too much time last year worrying about Branching. Stressful time on Campus since Hurricane Irene had devastated Vermont and the school was active with assistence. He said he lost a little focus with his school work for a few weeks. He made it up the rest of the semestor. He got what he wanted and loves his Branch but now thinks he would have been happy in almost any assignment. Remember to tell him to keep the focus on the grades. Gotta Graduate now.
