Is it possible for a Freshman to transfer into Texas A&M's corps of cadets? If so, is it a 4 year school, or is it still considered a 3 year school (because you transferred)? Thanks.

You can always contact the TAMU Corps and ask questions. http://corps.tamu.edu/contact-us . You can also e-mail questions to staff members. http://corps.tamu.edu/Talk-To-A-Staff-Member .

The information you get from staff members is likely to be more up to date and authoritative than information you get from cadets, but that is just a parent talking.

I believe it is possible to transfer in. There is at least one “outfit” which “specializes” in out of sequence cadets, Squadron 18. “The Phantoms are an outfit organized to transition current college students into the Corps. Transfer students and current A&M students can join the Corps and SQ 18, undergo the “fish” experience for one semester, and then move up to the class commensurate with their academic standing.” http://corps.tamu.edu/Outfit-Pages/squadron-18-phantom.html .

I also sent you a PM.

Good luck.

For any Aggies, recent grads, current cadets, can you shed light on the SEAL platoon? From what I understand, it's probably the best SEAL officer prep units in the Country. For example, I had read a stat that said that the 16 members of the SEAL platoon (class of 2012, maybe earlier than that not entirely sure) received all 16 NROTC SpecWar billets and all later received their tridents. Is that true? I also hear that they schedule training trips, Scuba, Rifle/Pistol shooting, etc, - any truth to that? Thanks,

Not all of the guys in it are even in NROTC, some of them want to to EOD and some just want to be in good shape. The most I heard was that one year 8 guys went to BUDS from A&M, 7 of them were in platoon and the only guy who didn't get his trident wasn't in the platoon. Then again, some years nobody goes so it really depends.

Alright thanks bro

Do you know by chance how many guys went this past year? And I understand this is a pretty difficult question to ask, but do you think there is a better SEAL officer training program out there? Thanks again.

...your Sn is awesome btw, RLTW!

No idea, some years nobody goes at all so it depends on the year. I only know this from talking to some of the guys in it when I went though. The training is really intense as far as I saw, seems like it's the best outside of the academy. I would spend the night with the corps if you want to learn more though, you'll probably meet somebody in seal platoon as well.

Thanks btw, maybe it'll be me one day.

Yeah, I've only heard good things about it - few years back I heard all 16 members of SEAL platoon went on to get their tridents...as you said, the best training that goes on outside of USNA. Or at least IMO.

Did you See Joe Kapchiewski's new book? Solid book on Ranger batt, I'd recommend it to anyone.

Speaking of which, Are you still in college or are you AD? If the latter what unit are you in? Have a good one.

Haha still in high school man, I've just done some good research is all

I'll definitely read that book though, I should probably get a kindle or something now with all the good stuff coming out.

You might want to keep asking this question, try and find some answers from current cadets and grads rather then high school students. Reality vs Research can be a big difference.

True, the reason as to why I created this thread was because of that. Are you a Cadet/Grad? Thanks.

No, hopefully you'll find some current or past cadets that can answer your questions.

This. I only know this stuff because I asked guys in the Corps there as well as the head of the NROTC department, I suggest you do the same.

I emailed the NROTC commander last Friday, hopefully he'll get back to me soon.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the advice. By chance, did you receive a scholarship to TAMU? And can you answer some of the SEAL questions I had posted above? Have a good one - jct95

Yes, I received both an Army and a Navy 4-year scholarship. I accepted the Army one, so most of my research has been for AROTC. You might contact Navy LT Heru Mansell [hmansell(at)navy(dot)tamu(dot)com] for NROTC questions. He might put you in touch with some current SEAL Platoon members as well.

I had emailed the public affairs office, is that him? Thanks.
