Hello,

I have been reading a lot of threads on the forum but I still have a question that is not answered. I am currently a 16 years old US citizen living in France. I am planning on taking the SAT in october, that test will cost 51$. I am also planning on taking the SAT at least two times to have higher scores. Due to the expenses on the SAT test, I will not afford paying the ACT + writing test which would cost me 52.5$ + 33$( because I will not take the test in the US ). So my question is : Will my application be less competitive because I will only have SAT scores ? I know they are not just looking for the academics but also leadership volunteering hours etc .

Thank you very much.

SAT only

Short answer is no. BUT, some people do significantly better on the ACT than the SAT and vice-versa. You will see in many threads it is a good idea to do study guides like the official SAT (practice tests from real tests) and Kaplan study guides. There are also many online study programs.

The best thing you can do is do your best and shoot for a 2400 (800-800-800). The AFA will super-score your tests for the score they use. You sound like you have a plan and also understand that the SAT/ACT scores are only part of the total package that they are looking for in a potential cadet. Keep doing your best and Good Luck!

Thank you very much for your quick reply. Of course I am aiming for a 2400, I am doing my best on the college board and train myself for at least 2h/day. I have taken the " free practice test" on the college board but only had a SAT math score of 620 and verbal 600 because scholar programs are different. I will probably buy this guide and never heard of the kaplan study , I will check that immediatly.

Thank you very much for your help !
