So I thought I would share my enthusiasm for visiting the academy on here. I have a feeling that being on the grounds will be deeply moving. In general I just can't wait! On a side note, will I be able to find a USCG flag while I am there?

Are you looking for a Coast Guard flag, or a Coast Guard Academy flag?

Make sure you get the one you want.

A visit to the Exchange (upstairs in Johnson Hall) should be on your itinerary, you should be able to find what you are looking for, as well as a whole lotta other stuff you didn't know you wanted.

Both flags could work. What is the Coast Flag that has the vertical bars across it? I believe it's the coast guard ensign?

There are three different flags people may be talking about....

The Corps of Cadets flag is in Luigi's post about.

The white flag that says United States Coast Guard is the "Coast Guard Standard". That is the flag you will see in parades for the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard flag with the vertical red stripes is the "Coast Guard Ensign". There are some laws regarding the display of that flag, it is "for official use only" and may only be displayed by the U.S. Coast Guard. It signifies the authorities of the Coast Guard. I would not recommend displaying it because....it's against the law. I have one that came from my first ship...I don't fly it, just stow it away. It looks like the Customs flag, except that it has a Coast Guard crest....

Ohh yah.. go the CGX and get your flags there... I bought one while there in July.. I have it here at home and will be hanging it on the front porch before my daughter returns home from school ... each time... :shake:

I figure I should be able to get away with hanging it then... my USAF-Ret hubby may have issues with it flying all the time. LOL
