To piggyback the Systems Major question, my DS is very interested in economics, public policy, and finance. Since he will not be in one of the "technical" disciplines and knows an MBA or grad equivalent degree is required...what opportunities exist for cadet graduates? Also, do many get internship opportunities in the DC area?

This is a question that your son should ask the academic departments directly. Programs and opportunities vary year by year so it's difficult to give any solid answers.

Keep in mind that he'll have close to a year to communicate with the different academic departments and decide on a major. No need to rush the process! I understand your son (and you) are very excited to start the journey at USAFA. Good luck!

Jaceguy, I presume that an Econ degree without a masters in Business/Finance or Law would lead to a lower profile job ie teaching or purchasing manager.

    Econ Major

My DS, a member of Class 2011, is an Econ major and is currently involved in acquisitions. From what i know (since he does not talk much), he reports directly to a Full bird Colonel and he deals with quite a number of AF vendors. Thus, he is involved with the corporate or business side of the AF. YOu might like to inquire more about this job.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal, although I wish to be a pilot. As far as my understanding goes, major has no bearing on being a pilot, so the Econ degree (with masters in business of course) would be mostly for after retirement or seperation.
