Overnight Visit

Our DS has received an appointment for the C/O 19 and is 95% sure he is going to accept it. However, before he signs on the dotted line, we plan to visit the USNA over Spring Break. Is it possible for incoming plebes to do an overnight stay that will allow them to get an "insider's look" before they commit?

DD contacted Admissions with this very question just a few days ago. Was told that there are no so "appointee tours." I'm assuming from your post that your DS did not do a CVW. If your DS went to NASS then that's likely the extent of all he will see. DD was offered the chance to go back for the normal visitors tour though. Since she did NASS though she won't be doing that. Congrats on the appointment!

Request a CVW. Did he do NASS? If he did he will be fine. If he did not, and a visit is doable for the family, then it wouldn't hurt. Allows him to envision his future. Instead I hope I get here, it's 'okay, how do I feel about it for real?' Maybe there is a current Mid on this form he can meet with while there and ask questions? They can PM you in this form if someone is willing to.

Thanks for the feedback. DS went to NASS, so we'll likely just do the general tour to make sure he's sure about his choice. DS knows several current mids and texts with them frequently. Maybe will try to meet with them face-to-face if they have a few minutes.

I would also suggest he go to a Candidate Visit Weekend. There are none in March, but there are some options in April. DS went to one February and he felt it was very informative for him in his decision process.

Definitely ask RD for CVW, they'll make it happen. If your son has already done NASS, then he has a glimpse of plebe summer and what it'll be like during plebe year. A classmate of mine said he did NASS and visited during commissioning week to make sure he was making the right decision, it cleared up any doubts he had after seeing the reward after 4 years of hard work.

Great idea, but keep in mind Commissioning week is after the 1 May deadline for submitting a decision.
