DS has all the items on the packing list ready to put in his suitcase. However, I was wondering if there are any additional items past attendees found they should have brought. Another academy has a thread about items they might want to bring but aren't on the packing list.

There's some down time, so a book or something is good. I brought a box of snack bars, too.

Summer seminar is a camp for rising seniors to go to the academy for a few days and get a feel for the place. You do PT, take a practice CFA, attend some workshops, etc.

There's not much down time, and you'll be dead tired every night and will probably talk to your roommate forever anyway. Maybe some flip flops for the shower?

Remember to pack space!

I didn't and it made it hard so remember that you will be coming back with quite a bit more than you went out with and that stuff needs a place to go.

Question. On the packing list, we are told to bring slacks or tan jeans. If we bring slacks, will we have access to an iron, because I know my stuff will get wrinkled on the trip? Also, will we be doing all our physical activities in our issued shorts, and our "classroom" stuff in the jeans/slacks?

Where can I find the Packing list? Thanks!

Tried surfing around and never came across it.

There should be a link to it on the SS application for the info packet. On it has times, packing list, and course descriptions.

An iron (and ironing board) will be hard to come by, unless your element leader happened to have one handy. Truth is upperclassmen do not iron often as most of what needs to be ironed is already taken care of by the dry cleaners. I recommend some khakis that don't really require ironing. Yes, all PT will be done in shorts (wait until June 2011 then it'll all be in ABUs.)

That brings up a few more questions. One, will we at least have space to hang stuff up? Two, the packing list says nothing about shirts. Will we just wear the T-shirts issued to us?

My son is there now. He took some shorts and T-shirts thinking he would wear that during the down time as he did last year when he went to the basketball camp. He said they are either wearing the PT gear or the issued shirt with the tan pants. Doesn't look like there is any down time because after dinner, they have briefings in the evenings and then it's back to the barracks.

So maybe bring one or two just in case? Also, should we bring casual shoes to go with the slacks, and will we have somewhere to hang stuff up?

Bring compression shorts. Don't worry about ironing your pants. Wear tennis shoes. Have fun. Enjoy the food. Doolie for a Day is tomorrow. I will update more sometime tomorrow night or Sunday.

Yeah, rooms do have closets. Don't expect them to have hangers though.

What are compression shorts?

Compression shorts are spandex and you can wear them under your PT shorts. Like sliding shorts for baseball or softball but without the thick padding.

On another note, Doolie for a Day is over! It was sooooo awesome.
